Transmission sensor ( fail safe prog )

I have had to have my BMW X5 2004 transmission rebuilt TWICE in the last 2 years. First, @80K, it just stopped, though engine rev'd. When the trans place opened it up, they said the trans oil was burned, so they rebuilt it for $2,500. I had problems over the year and then it went again during the warranty and they repaired it, free. Lasted 14K Miles. I got ALOT of Trans Failsafe Prog lights. When I turned off the car, it reset, but ultimately came back on, and forewarned an impending trans failure. When the trans went the 2nd time, I bought a USED 40K trans from LKQ (I was lucky to find one with low mileage) for $2K and had the trans place put it in. NO PROBLEMS now. I got this advice from a BMW dealer parts guy out in PA - NO ONE can really rebuild BMW Trans well. Either go for a remanufactured one, or a low mileage used one. Getting them rebuilt at the local trans place will only give you heart aches and you'll end up doing the job again. ALSO: DO NOT WAIT FOR the BMW recommended 100K miles to replace the trans fluid. I suggest 60K. That's the #1 cause of trans failure. I'm out $6K on trannys now, but I'm about to take legal action. One more thing - I used K-Solv in my radiator, and the Trans guy told me that it clogged up the trans cooler. He took off the cooler lines and put a video tube camera up there, and yes, it showed cloggage. Jury is out on who's the real culprit here. Bottom line: Trans Program Failure is a pre-cursor to transmission failure. Get ready... Don't let a local shop rebuild it! Start shopping for a low mileage used one!

I own a 2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid with CVT. What is the factory maintenance schedule for the transmission? Dealer is telling me it needs service at 70,000 miles and when purchased I was told it would be...

All Transmissions get the fluid changed at 30,000 miles

I really am not familliar with Hybrids, but if the Dealer
told you 70,000 miles, you can be rest assured that, that
is at the high end, mileage wise,as they usually tell you
that it never gets changed or changed at 100,000 miles

Both of which most trans fail long before ,along with
steering racks ,because of no fluid changes.

I'm guessing it takes special fluid

There are plenty of web sites to answer all
those questions any way you want.

From a stop, when you start to accelerate, the car skip like the transmission is out of sync. Once it starts going it shifts fine. This only happens after the car has warmed up (5-6miles of driving).

Spark Plugs--every 70,000 miles
O2 Sensors -front 2 every 100,000 miles
Clean MAF Sensor
Check coils for misfires
Trans & power steering --Fluid every 30,000 miles

2006 navigator intake gasket went, is this common and also the transmission isn't smooth is this also common, the vehicle has 42,000 miles on it

Neither should be an issue

The trans fluid and power steering, get
changed every 30,000 miles on ALL vehicles

The Spark Plugs at 70,000 miles

Many other items should have been
checked, tested and taken care of by
more,just as preventative maintanance

That has nothing to do with the MFG
Scheduled Maintanance

My 2004 mercury monteray is experiencing jerking while driving up inclines. I changed the fule filter and it was real dirty when i took it off and replaced with a new one, it went away for about 3 weeks...

Spark Plugs--change every 3 years, not over 70,000 miles
Bad EGR Valve
Ignition Misfires
Worn out O2 Sensors---- change front 2 at 100,000 miles
Clean MAF Sensor-----clean- once or twice a year

Your trans failed, because the fluid has to be
changed every 3 years,30,000 miles ,power
steering also 3 years

I have a 2004 Maxima and an independent local business is recommending a Transmission Power Flush. There are 70,000 muiles on the car. What is the recommended transmission maintenance andis this...

I wouldn't flush the trans, just remove the pan.

You should change trans fluid, every couple years and not more than 30,000 miles, on all vehicles.

Some will disagree, but I used to own a trans shop. 90% of all that work, come from not changing fluid. Same on power steering fluid

Audi 2003 tt transmission

Should've went with new one with a warranty. Used engines and transmissions are just that. You don't know what kind of abuse it has had, if anyone did the maintenance on, or anything else. Was there any kind of warranty from the salvage company? They do usaully give at least a 6-12 month warranty on something like that.
