Question about 1989 Buick Park Avenue

2 Answers

I was driving in a heavy rainstorm yesterday and then about 5 miles of driving my 89 park avenue stalled out. It would stay cranked so I let it set then tried a little later and got it to stay cranked enough to move it a little then it stalled again. I changed the fuel filter and checked the plugs. It sounds good now when It's idled but if I try to drive it the car stalls and starts sputtering. Please help...

I just recently had a tune up and it has been running just fine. Until yesterday when I went through several puddles. I changed the fuel filter and that didn't help and I checked the plugs they seemed good. The car will now idle pretty fine then if I start to drive it sputters then the engine will all the sudden cut off.

Large puddles, checked plugs their good changed fuel filter and it has recently been tuned up. It will idle pretty fine but starts to bog down when I drive it for a few feet. Sometimes it will drive 5 ft sometimes it will drive a mile before the engine cuts off like it's stalling out.

If the fuel filter was stopped up it could have damaged the fuel pump. You can disconnect the fuel line after it comes out of the filter and crank the engine to see if you have plenty of gas coming through the filter.

Sounds like you got something wet...when was last tune up? perhaps ignition wires are still wet. Did you go through sever puddles? Might be time for a tune up

Wont stay running.

There is no thinking & throwing parts at any vehicle

The only fix is knowledge & the ability to do some testing

Lets go with a failed fuel pump & at least check pressure
at the motor on a gauge or see if that data is on a scan tool

Explain what test told you a cylinder wasn't firing !

MY 1997 PARK AVENUE WAS RUNNING GREAT, THEN AFTER AN HOUR WHILE I DROVE IT STARTED BOGGING, FELT LIKE IT WAS STARVING FOR FUEL WHICH IT HAD PLENTY OFF. AFTER 10 MINUTES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IT...

If the Check Engine light came on, it set a code in the engine computer that will help to find out what happened. You need to scan your engine computer to get the information needed to diagnose the problem.

Location and difficulty of replacing crank sensor on 92 park avenue? auto stalls out, farts, back fires? replaced water pump hose connecter that screws into block from top of water pump outlet? took out...

This could be one of many issues (or more than one!). When you say runs for 5 minutes, does it just stall? overheats? Probably not the crank sensor since when they go they go and engine will not run. If you can get it to Autozone or borow a diagnostic tool may be able to find an avenue to persue. My first thought is fuel from what you describe, fuel filter, fuel pump, injectors.
