Question about Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera

Radio power and ignition wire colors what are they?

Is the constant power wire orange for the radio in an Olds Aurora? I was installing an aftermarket head unit and I... I fried it. I finally discovered that the OEM stereo would not work either. It is lit up, but the power will not come in fully. Have I shorted a wire somewhere? I am considering doing a bypass with another wire. Is that plausible?

On the '89-94 Ciera the 12v constant is orange, the 12v switched is yellow. Ground is black.

Radio power is normally solid red.
I like to rerout my radio power to the cigarette lighter so I can have the radio on without the key in.

What color wire

find the wire that has power when the key is in the run position and off when the key is off and piggyback that wire.. Normally the radio is wired into the accessories wire so that you can listen to the radio without having power run through the coil and burning it out. That wire will have power when running and when turned to the accessories position.

Trying nto install radio wireing problems what color is cosant power supply and what color is ignition

the best thing to do is use a test light and connect one side the a ground somewhere then check all the wires with ignition key off. when you find a wire with power then mark it and turn on the ignition and look for the ignition power wire.

I have a newer radio and want to install it, but isnt sure which wires connect, they are different colors

use a volt-meter or test light to find the positive supply power from your vehicles wires, and the ground wire too. attach those to the new radio's power wires (and attach the new radio's ignition power wire, or switching wire to the positive power wire from your vehicle too). The point will be to get power to the new radio so that you can do a trial by error to find which speakers turn on when you connect them. Just follow the sound! after you have found all the speaker wires. the last thing is to find which wire from your vehicle needs to be attached to the ignition wire on your radio. This wire makes sure your radio is off when your keys are turned off so not to drain the battery. if you cannot find a switching ignition wire, run a wire to a connection in the back of a fuse panel connection (which you can test any connection with your volt meter to see if it shuts off with the key.

I want to hook up my XM radio receiver to tun off with the ignition switch. I purchased a lighter plug kit to wire into the ignition switch, but after pulling fuse panel I'm not sure what wire color to tap...

using a test light or meter locate a fuse that does not have power when the switch is off - xm should require only 5 amp fuse - no more than 10 - pull fuse to test which side the power is coming in and hook into load side of fuse-
