Question about Ford Expedition

My expedition is acting up real bad. On and off when I insert the key all it will do is turn acc mode on. It won't even try to turn the engine. Also, the red light around the gear it's in won't be there. Not only that, but when I stop at a gas station and put it into park, go in, come back out and put it into park or drive all it will do is reeve up. after about 5 to 40 seconds of it being in that gear it finally shifts into it. Also sometimes when I get stopped at a light and I start to go it seems like it gets stuck in limp mode and won't shift past 1st or second gear and starts redlining. It will eventually shift though. I've taken it to two ford dealerships and they can't find anything wrong. I finally took it to aamco and they ran a computer test on it and the codes for theft detection and the transmission sensor shows up. I didn't know if anyone would have a idea or if this has happened to anyone that has owned a expedition or any other car for that matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the detailed explanation. I'm probably going to print this page and take it to aamco so they can look over everything because the ford dealerships around here are just about worthless. Again, Thanks for the help.

Hello, I enjoy a challenge. I have several things for you to check and start with.

The Ignition switch can have 2 adjustments, one at the top on the Ignition switch housing and the second on the bottom of the steering column at an Interlock switch. The plastic column cover will need to be worked out of the steering wheel tilt mechanism to get at the Ignition switch. Disconnect the Battery NEG post and put your key in the lock cylinder in either the ACC or Run position while pushing on a spring button at the bottom of the lock. You can use a drillbit to press this part and pull up with the key to remove the Lock cylinder. Replace with a new Ignition switch.

Before replacing the column cover, take time to Temporarily reconnect the Battery and align the Ignition switch and the bottom Interlock switch so you are sure all positions on the Ignition key work. Disconnect the Battery again and fit the plastic cover back on. Then reconnect the Battery.

By replacing the Ignition switch, you should have eliminated the Starting problem and a Battery drain problem which could make the Antitheft kick-in. These Models have Antitheft systems which will sense a low Battery level. You need to have a Draw test done on the Battery to eliminate a failing Battery as the cause of the Antitheft Code.

Your Shifter also has an Interlock. It is suppose to let the Starter work in Park, and it is suppose to keep you from shifting the trans without your foot on the Brake. If there is binding or misdirection you could need the TRANS sensor Aamco recommended. This would explain much of the Revving and not going into gear problems. You may need to have this separate Interlock adjusted.

You can also get free testing done at Autozone, Oreillys, and Advance autoparts instead of the expensive Dealers. But they are not going to install anything you need.

Limp mode is when the Timing of the engine, vehicle speed, and shifting is limited . You should not be able to go fast or race the engine in this mode. Something else was happening to make the engine race.

I hope you find my Solution very helpful and I have tried to suggest needed inexpensive parts to remedy this problem. The lighting of the shifter can be a simple burned out bulb.

I have the procedure for Toyota auto lock, is worth to try it
1) Step in the vehicle and make sure that all doors are closed completely
2) Insert the key into the ignition key cylinder.
3) Wait for more than 5 seconds.
4) After turning the key to the ACC position, turn the key from the ACC to the
ON position 5 times within 10 seconds (Last position : ON).
? Status Monitor LED will illuminate for 30 seconds.
Note : In case you implement 6 times or more by mistake,
action steps 6)-8) you made will be canceled.
Please retry from step 2).
5) While the LED is illuminated :
• Open and close the driver's door 2 times.
• Turn the key to the ACC position.

I have a suzuki grand vitara 2 liters engine ddis euro 5 engine 2011 model there are no suzuki dealers in tunisia can i reset the millage my self after i changed engine oil

that be real bad that..... ouch.

you might luck out and all 2011 suz, this reset works.
as stated in the op guide.

I see posts that say , only Suzuki scan tool can reset DDIS.

many cars, GM? you fiddle the key, throttle and trip reset to clear this, but each maker does it different and DDIS , my be different
that petrol gas engines, same year, same car.

here are some popular SUZUK (general) answers
according to the manual:

you have to have the engine off... turn the key to the "ACC" position which is the notch that allows power but doesn't turn the engine... then press the gas pedal fully THREE times within FIVE seconds...

however it doesn't always seem to work

    This is incorrect and will not work.

    To Fix:
    go to the oil indicator by pressing the second button. Hold on the tick mark button for 3 seconds. This will reset the remaining percentage to 100%.

    at the last resort, pulling battery neg. lug.
    this may do it, im not sure, but will also drop radio settings.,etc.

    Reset change oil light

    Driver Information Center (DIC) Equipped

    Step 1 of 5

    Place the key in the ignition and then turn it to the On/ACC position with the engine off.

    Step 2 of 5

    Press the "mode" button on the DIC until "Oil Life Left/Hold Set to Reset" is displayed on the DIC screen.

    Step 3 of 5

    Press the "set" button and hold it down until "100%" is displayed on the DIC display screen.

    Step 4 of 5

    Wait until three brief chimes emit before turning the ignition key back to the off position.

    Step 5 of 5

    Start the engine of the Aztec to ensure the oil warning light ("Change Engine Oil") is no longer illuminated on the instrument panel. If it still is, repeat the procedure.

    Non-DIC (Manual Change Oil Light)

    Step 1 of 4

    Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON/ACC position with the engine off.

    2009 HHR won't start. Battery is good.

    Is the security light on or blinking?If not then do you have power to the starter.You can check this with a test light.You should have power when you turn the key to start.The test light should light up.Should be the small wire.I believe it is purple in color.If the security light is on then you will have to get the codes to see what is causing the no start.Hope this helps.Good luck.

    Starts then dies & won't restart

    check fuel pressure, should be 40 psi.
    try 2 things

    spray starting fluid in air intake to see if it will stay running. It's fue then.

    Try turning key to on nd wait 5 seconds for system to build pressure and pump to shut off. Turn key off, wait for relay clcik noise or 10 seconds. then turn key to ON again and wait 5 seconds to build pressure again. Then start engine. If it starts better, you have a bad check valve in the fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator on the fuel rail (unlikely).

    1999 hard starting expedition, with 5.4 engine

    fuel pump may be going. try this. turn key on, listen for fuel pump to run for 5 seconds. Turn key off, wait 15 seconds or until you hear relay click inside car. Turn key on again for 5 seconds and ff for 15 seconds. repeat once more. This will pressurize fuel system to 40 psi so injectors have full pressure. If it starts quickly now, you are getting bleed down through the check valve in the fuel pump or the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail.

    Ignition switch won't turn on!

    In the same boat and Saturn just plain sucks. Glad they are shutting their doors. You ignition lock cylinder is bad. Good thing is that its stupid simple to fix bad news is the ignition has to be the ACC position to pull it out. Another real smart move these idiots decided to do. If you have a bad ignition lock you have a 50-50 chance it will seize in the freakin lock position making it impossible to get it to the ACC position. Anyway here is the link to a utude exact video on how to pull it out in 2 minutes to replace if your lucky and can get it to the ACC position.
