Question about Toyota Pickup

Had both heads shaved do to blown head gasket.Have heard two things to do because of higher compression,adjust timing 2degrees and adjust volume airflow meter by 1 to 3 clicks.How do you do the latter.This is for a 90 toyota V6 3VZE

The amount of head removal is usually not that critical. Everything stays the same....

a blown head gasket would not put metal shavings into the bottom. You will need to figure out where the metal is comming from but it sounds like the engine is "blown up" The first thing to do is to remove the head and see if the head gasket has blown. Even if the head gasket is blown it doesn't mean there isn't something else on the lower end thats not working . I have seen a timing chain that had worn into the metal and caused metal shavings to go into the bottom. If metal is going into the bottom the engine will need rebuilt or replaced or at least fix what ever is putting the metal into the bottom of the motor. Some shops will sell used motors that come from Japan and still work OK. A good mechanic can diagnose the condition of the motor and tell if it is worth fixing or not.

You blew a head gasket. Remove the head and see if you can see where the gasket failed, have the head shaved and replace gaskets.

92 v6 no compression left side is it worth rebuilding


probably a blown head gasket or warped head from severe overheating. "worth it?" how much work are you willing to do?if you pull the head and its not too warped a machine shop may be able to plain the head and get if flat again there are tolerances to consider (valve clearance/ max amount that can be removed from head) or if the block was affected it may be a lost cause if you shave down one head you should do the same on the other head as well. hope this helps

Sounds like a blown gasket. The pressure at combustion chamber varies from 75 in idle up to 150 in higher RPM. If the cylinder head gasket is blown, then gases are blown into the cooling system, increasing the pressure, the radiator cap pressure relief valve is open and coolant is discharged in the coolant bottle. In such cases it is common for the coolant bottle to boil. You can observe gases discharging in the bottle, mixed with coolant, from the cooling system. These are symptoms of a blown cylinder head gasket.
To find it out you have to perform cylinder compression test on your car. Start with a normal ("static") compression test. If you will find low or zero pressure in one cylinder this might be a bad ring, valve or cylinder head gasket

New head gasket gasket needed would be my first guesses. Sounds like vacuum from the intake stroke is sucking coolant around the gasket from the block on the intake stroke. How does the oil look?

It is very likely the overheating has blown the cylinder head gasket and coolant is getting into cylinders or compression is leaking from cylinder to cylinder or both, you will need to remove the cylinder head and have it checked for warp-age and shaved flat by a machine shop if ness, and replace heat gasket.

Hi tsmediaconce:

The water can only go one of 2 places, the crankcase or the exhaust. A blown head gasket could definitely be the problem. If oyu can get hold of a compression gauge you need to check the compression on each cylinder. If the head gasket is blown around the area of a cylinder you will see a low reading on that cylinder when you check compression.. Also chek the radiator for the presence of air bubbles. this indicates the head gasket is blown next to a water port.

The main thing to look for on the compression test is one cylinder that is markedly lower than the rest.
