Manual tarne Will not shift in to reverse? All linkage was changed

levels good (tranny dip sticked , hot, idle , in park)
shift linkage not bad. PRNDL
does car move in park if car, is in park, and take off all brakes
can car be pushed,? if yes park is failing too, and is bad shift linkage.
this is step 1 and 2 in the service manual on topic
of like 20 test. on car.
RTM read the manual yet? buy it ?

When the clutch was changed, the gear shift linkage would have been disconnected so the transmission could be removed. If it wasn't put back together properly, or had worn parts that weren't noticed at the time, that could be the problem. I once had a Chevrolet Citation (look that up!) with a 4-speed manual transmission, and one day it wouldn't shift into reverse. The linkage was loose, and a fairly easy fix.

Sounds like linkage from shift lever to transmission or the bushings on the linkage points. A "sloppy" shift lever with similar bushing problems may be the problem.

Shifter cable/ linkage needs to be adjusted.

Manual transmission does not change gears with transmission oil. If yours is the AMT type, get it scanned for error codes.If the problem is in shifting into R, get your clutch cable adjusted. Your clutch plate may have also worn out. If shifting is OK but the car just does not move, the gear linkage/cable may need adjustment. If all else is OK, the reverse gear in the transmission may have been damaged.

Check the shift linkage and adjust it according to specs in a Haynes repair manual

The wire of the gear which goes near of the clutch box has the inside guarnition which normally is broken and need to be changed second the clutch must be controlled

My VW is not shifting into reverse at all; I think a certain person was driving and mistakenly pressed the gear shifter down for all gears--reverse is the only gear you press the shifter down first in. Doesn't grind, 1 2 3 and 4 work but no reverse no reverse lights.
I've read several complicated (can't see scenario's) posts on screens and linkage and a cable fixed one guys problem but still no solutions.

Course the simple fixes first: FLUID LVL, CHK undercar at linkage for loose, worn fittings, if car is equipped with transmission modulator and the diaphram is split then you will smoke alot too! My bet is the linkage needs attention.
