Question about Ford Ranger

I need help on how to replace a ford 99 model super cab fan belt and what size belt would I need... also can I tighten the head gasket with a shifter.. cluless? ? Thank you. Carryn

    Thank you sooo much.. went to supercheap auto were they gave me the wrong size belt. I took it back only to be told that they don't make that size anymore and gave me the number belt and to go to repco. I arrived at repco with the number belt I needed but that was wrong also ahhh what fun,a look on the computer and i was handed the right one. Thank you Repco..this combined with your help and my problem is fixed. Well except the gasket..that one I might leave for now..Again a very BIG THANK YOU

First to get right fan belt you tell folks at parts store year, make & model & engine size and they look it up for you. To change belt depending in which belt you have to loosen alternator, power steering pump etc... bolts and slop old belt off new one on and retighten. (Parts folks can show you how also) If you have a bad head gasket, they need to be replaced not tightened.

Torque specs for 99 f350 head bolts on 5.4l


Check this information for 1999 FORD TRUCK F350 SUPER DUTY P/U 4WD 5.4L EFI 8CYL and keep in mind that cylinder head bolts must be replaced with new ones. They are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.

Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown in three steps, as follows:
  1. Step 1-27-31 ft. lbs. (37-43 Nm).
  2. Step 2-tighten an additional 85-95 degrees.
  3. Step 3-tighten another 85-95 degrees.

How do you replace water pump?


Assuming this is a 460 Ford Big Block:

REMOVAL

-Drain cooling system.
-Remove drive belts.
-Remove bolts attaching fan shroud to radiator.
-Remove fan blade from fan clutch and remove fan shroud.
-Remove fan clutch and water pump pulley from water pump.
-Remove four bolts and one nut attaching A/C compressor mounting bracket to cylinder head and water pump. Do not remove A/C compressor or power steering pump from A/C compressor mounting bracket.
-Pull A/C compressor mounting bracket forward to remove from stud on water pump.
-Remove bolt attaching generator adjusting arm to water pump. Remove four bolts attaching generator mounting bracket to cylinder head, cylinder block and water pump.
-Remove remaining water pump attaching bolts and remove water pump from engine front cover.
-Remove water pump cover from water pump. Discard water pump housing gasket and water pump cover gasket.
INSTALLATION
-Remove any gasket material from water pump cylinder front cover and separator plate mating surfaces.
-Position new water pump housing gasket and water pump cover gasket coated on both sides with Perfect Seal Sealing Compound B5A-19554-A or equivalent water-resistant sealer meeting Ford specification ESE-M4G115-A.
-Position water pump and water pump cover onto engine front cover. Install bolts and tighten to16-24 Nm (12-18 ft. lbs.).
-Install generator mounting bracket to cylinder head, cylinder block and water pump with four attaching bolts. Install generator adjusting arm to water pump with one attaching bolt. Tighten 7/16-inch bolts to 54-71 Nm (40-53 ft. lbs.) and 3/8-inch bolts to 41-54 Nm (30-40 ft. lbs.).
-Position A/C compressor mounting bracket over water pump stud and secure to cylinder head with four bolts tightened to 54-71 Nm (40-53 ft. lbs.) and secure nut to water pump to 41-54 Nm (30-40 ft. lbs.).
-Install water pump pulley and fan clutch to water pump hub with four bolts. Install fan blade to fan clutch with four bolts. Tighten water pump pulley, fan clutch hub bolts, and fan-to-fan clutch hub bolts to 16-24 Nm (12-18 ft. lbs.). Install fan shroud.
-Install drive belts.
-Fill and bleed the cooling system.
-Start the engine and check for leaks

2000 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4x4 w/ 5.4L V8 Auto. Shift lever will not go into park and has too much slack. Have attempted to adjust the cable on the shifting module along side the transmission with no luck....


This is an easy (well, relative easy) fix.
If you can remove the lower dash panel where the fuses are...
Put the key in the ignition and move the shift lever as you look below the steering column.
You'll see the mechanism moving. There is a connecting flange that has a couple of hex headed screws attaching the two pieces of the linkage together.
I just did this yesterday... if you can tolerate standing on your head for a bit, feel with a finger to find the hex head. These things come loose over time and it just takes a hex wrench.. not sure of the size but it's about 3/1t6 of and inch.. be patient and remember that because this is on the backside of the flange, you'll be tightening it in what seems like the opposite direction than normal..
There's not alot of clearance but if you're patient, you'll be able to tighten these back up.
The linkage and park and starting switch will all work great when they retighten..
(My 2001 Excursion had this exact same issue... it's fixed!) Let me know how you do and if I can help ..

Replacing alternator , I don't know how to tighten or loosen the belt


Your vehicle has a belt tensioner that by using either a 1/2" drive ratchet or a wrench for the bolt on the pulley. Roll the tensioner up and slip the belt off the pulley. be aware of the belt routing and draw yourself a pic of the route. You should have a diagram of the belt route on the radiator support. Just make sure it is there.

I have a problem with a 2000 Ford F250. have changed thermostat, water pump and radiator. truck does not overheat, but will force water back out through the reservoir. is it a intake maniford or head...


You have a blown gasket.
You will have to repair it with a new gasket.
First try a quick fix like a Stop Leak for head gasket Bars Leaks or similar heavy duty.
