Is there a separate battery for car alarm on BMW 1995 compact

Do you have the diamond shaped key? If so, the battery isn't meant to be replaced (it charges when put in the ignition). You have a few options:

1. Buy a new key from the dealer. A new key costs about $250 and they'll probably have to order it.

2. You could try to cut open the key and replaced the rechargeable battery. Your key wasn't meant to be opened so it will be tough.
If you go this route, you'll want a new cover since it now looks terrible. Look on ebay and buy diamond shaped blank key. There are 2 type; one with a notch and one without. Get the blank key cut and move the internals from your old to your new key.

If you don't have the diamond shaped key, look for the seam and a small notch on the side of the key and pry it open to access the battery. You can find the battery (the correct size is printed on top of the battery) at Amazon.

you can call a key smith which will come out and get into your trunk but also the key smith could change the lock to the trunk so the same key that opens the doors also opens the trunk.

How to gain access in to bmw x5 2001. battery flat and unable to open drivers door with key

When all else fails - some ideas:

(1) locksmith who does house calls - they'll have a locksmith's kit (consisting of dozens of
oddly-shaped metal wires/probes, wedges, slim-jim, etc.) to open nearly any car door.
This costs about $30-$40.

(2) dealership may be able to help - esp if you have "Roadside Assistance" coverage on your
(new?) BMW.

(3) AAA - you membership may cover accidental lockouts.

(4) if you can get into the trunk with they key - and push forward your fold-down rear seats (if so
equipped), then you're in - but I don't know if this car's seats fold down.

(5) there might be a clever way to pop the hood release from below (jack up the car to see).
If so, hook up a spare charged battery (or battery charger - everyone should have one) to
the car battery just long enough to get in with your key or keyless remote.
Note that you only need to hook up the Positive
battery terminal to the battery - the Negative terminal (of battery charger or battery) can be
connected to any part of the frame/unibody. Why: This car's electrical system uses the frame
as a negative/ground.

The doors do not open by remote control key(BMW 740il 1996 model)

Key batteries completely discharged. Key batteries not replaced within 60 seconds. Key added or replaced. DO NOT press remote control buttons during battery replacement.
Unlock vehicle. Enter vehicle. Close driver's door. Switch ignition ON and OFF. Remove ignition key. Press and hold unlock button Fig. 1 [1]. Press lock button Fig. 1 [2] briefly 3 times within 10 seconds keeping unlock button [1] depressed. Release unlock button Fig. 1 [1]. Some models: LED Fig. 1 [3] flashes slowly for 10 seconds. Some models: Central locking system locks and unlocks rapidly to indicate correct programming. Some models: Repeat above procedure if central locking system does not work and LED does not flash or LED flashes continuously

To change batteries remove panel back of key then screws on plastic bar
Batteries are available from your local motor factor shop
You might not need new batteries try re programing as described above

730d sport 04. I lock the car with remote key, but when i try the doors the car opens.. no alarm nothing..

When you press lock you should hear central locking click.
If you don.t the remote battery is flat. You can not change battery,it charges in ignition as you drive.Have you got a second key to try.
If not use manual key located in remote key{check ln owners manual}to lock car. Also using this key will confirm central locking is ok.
good luck barry.

Replace battery in key

If you have the diamond shape key, the battery is not replacable. If you have the square shaped key, the battery is replacable, but that is obvious because of the screws on the back of the remote.if you have the diamond shape key, it is recharged when its inserted into the ignition. If the key hasn't failed, taking a long trip 60 min. or longer should recharge the battery. If there is no change in the operation of the key after your long trip, most likely the key has failed and needs replacement.

BMW remote control problem

I have a e60 525i that I just brought and it has the same problem, the owners manual suggests driving with the key in the ignition for a long time as the batteries are rechargable and may have gone flat, i have tried this and it doesnt seem to work

i also read something about getting water in the aerial about the rear window and that wrecks the receiever. My car isn;t under warranty so not looking forwarding to taking it to bmw
