I assume this is an automatic transmission -- correct ? Does it seem to be in gear & slipping, but just not moving the vehicle -- or does it seem to be out of gear ?

Odds are yes you need a transmission, reverse is usually the first gear to go out, There is a chance that you could replace the tranny flouid and filter and may help. Thats up to you , this would cost around $60 , A rebuilt tranny could run you around $800 at least depending where you are located. A used one at a salvage may run you around $ 150-$250, And cost at least $200 for labor to replace.
Sorry wish could give you better news, Good luck to you.

How many miles on the vehicle ? Ever have trans flush and service done ? Any lights lit on the dash ? May have codes stored in PCM , As this is computer controlled ! You should take to trans. shop. This is not something for a do it your self job .

Is there any odor to the trans fluid? Does it have any burned smell on the dipstick?

I have a chevy 93 astro van my transmission won't shift out of 1st gear, and at the same time my heater doesn't turn on, and the speedometer stop working. all three things happend at the same time.

If the van is an all power, Have your alternator checked. DO NOT remove battery cable while running to check alternator. You definitely will need a new one then. they are sensitive to voltage changes, if voltage drops much will lock auto trans in 1st gear & various others things will stop working that draw much juice. Anything under 11.7 volts will trigger trans lock into gear on these vans. Autozone & O'Reillys checks them for free if you bring it to them.

No reverse gear 7TA D7

The trans is a 4L60-E and could have one of two common failures. First, if reverse is all that you are missing then it is likely the low-reverse clutches have failed. If you are also missing 2nd and 4th gears then you likely have a broken or stripped "reaction shell". Either way, the trans needs to be removed, dismantled, and repaired.
