The alternator generates the current that the lights will be using and the alternator is driven by the engine power via belts, so the vibration could be directly related with the problem. check belts and make sure they are all sound, good place to start from.

belt is like new and the premium battery is less than a year old. could there be a bad bearing in the alternator ? thanks

  • finley nyaata Mar 31, 2011

that could be the reason and you should look at it, but also make sure that the belt pulleys are sound since you feel some vibrations. thanks

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. Since the fact that your lights are blinking, it is a sign to do with the charging system. You need to test your battery. Make sure it is holding a proper charge. Make sure the terminals are clean and that they are tightened correctly. You may have an alternator going bad. You can easily test it by unplugging the hot side of the battery, which is the red side. Start your car first and then unplug the battery. If your car dies instantly, your alternator is bad. If it stays on, check your battery and your wires. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I am here to help and thanks for using FixYa.

Fuel pump

If your fuel pump failing the first thing you may notice is you will have trouble starting the engine after it sits for a while. You may also notice that your gas gauge is unsteady and flickers or vibrates. If you continue to operate the vehicle, eventually the vehicle will get harder and hard to start and eventually will not start. You can test the fuel pressure to be sure the pump has preasure. These symptoms can also be the fuel filter so start with the fuel filter first. If it is just hard starting after it sits then you should replace the fuel check valve on the engine. When the check valve is failing the pressure bleeds off over time as the vehicle sits.

Steering wheel vibrates when Im stopped at a light

You may have front brake rotors which are slightly warped. The ABS only comes into play under very hard brakeing conditions. Typically you may also feel a slight pulse in the brake pedal as you slow down. That would be my best guess. If you have a vibration when you are stopped, that may be a motor mount issue. Either the front and/or rear mount may be weak. They are designed to isolate small engine vibrations you might feel when the car is at a stand still The motor mounts are designed to isolate small engine vibrations at a stand still at idle as well as limit the amount of travel the engine can make under a load. As a car gets older, the rubber which is what the mounts are made of get harder and often collapse slightly and can cause your condition because they are no longer plyable.Maybe this might shed some light on your problem. Good luck.

High speed vibration when decelerating 2005 mustang saleen 5 speed

Does vibration start when brakes are applied? Then it would be something like brake rotors. You may need to check driveshaft for balance.

Some engines with "Cam Phasers" can act up. Those with DOHC have a device on each bank and valves are timed separately for each bank. If one device returns to base timing any differently than the other, the engine will shake or stall.

Clutch bearings or clutch springs may be worn and react when Torque shifts. Try to notice if clutch is engaged or depressed when vibration is present.

If it won't start have a compression test done and see if one bank doesn't have compression . The intake cam is known for breaking at the front lobe

Start engine and engineine pops for couple of

Have the ABS pump ECM checked (it is separate from the main ECM), try to catch it early. I bought a transmission last year. This is typical 98-02 Rodeo behavior.

Flickering oil light

This could be two unassociated problems; the flickering oil light can indicate that the pressure sensor for the idiot light is failing- this is not uncommon, the other can be a failed temperature sensor sensor on the main radiator.
The low oil pressure condition may also be indicative of a worn engine part or parts. It would make sense to have the actual oil pressure checked in a shop to see if it is in the normal range which should lay between ~30 & 60 pounds depending on engine RPMs and engine temperature. The idiot lights trigger at around 4-5 pounds and this is really pretty late for a warning; if the pressure is actually that low, not only lubrication is too little but the cooling effect of the circulating oil is inadequate.
If it was my car, I would replace both sensors before getting too worried. The cost of these together (parts only) should be well under $50 US.

Dodge Neon 2002 SE

the engine mounts and the transmission mounts are broken which causes vibration you can test this by slightly lifting the engine a little bit using a small floor jack but do not lift too much on the oil pan just enough to raise the engine a little and you will notice the vibration is gone if this is the case replace all the mounts.
