Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee

2 Answers

I always have to turn the heater off when at a red light because strong scent of fumes comes in but then seems to go away while driving. After a 4 or 5 hour trip, I have a headache, nausea, my hands are numb and **** out of the blue! I drive a '96 grand cherokee laredo. Any advice besides burning the thing?LOL! P.S. Just today: Could no longer climb even the smallest of hills. Jeep would slow to a crawl and then tranny would shift to compensate.(which did'nt help any!!) Thanx to all!

Well if you are smelling fumes that badly you more than likely have an exhaust leak. please bring it in to a repair shop for diagnosis before you kill anymore brain cells and possibly pass out behind the wheel or exfixiate yourself.

HI, I have a Peugeot 206 2004. For the past couple of months I have had a really strong smell of petrol while driving it seems to be alot worst with the windows down mainly the drivers side windows. This...

A strong smell of petrol means a strong possibility of fire so it is very important to find the cause and cure it.

Any significant leak would leave evidence on a clean smooth floor but if the smell isn't strong when the car is running but stationary and there is no evidence underneath then there is a distinct possibility it only leaks while being driven.

While being driven the engine will move around on the flexible engine mounts as a reaction to acceleration and deceleration and a few feet of fuel pipe near the front will be flexing because of that. It is possible a joint might be leaking a little or a crack in a pipe is opening as the engine moves.

A strong fuel smell indicates a leak and unless the leak is directly on the floor there will be evidence though a good light and a degree of patience will be needed - and of course being at eye level with the area being inspected.

Ok this only started once it got cold out. when I go and start my car to warm up there is an overwhelming smell of gas inside and out. It gets better as I drive but as soon as I have to start at a light or...

Firstly stop driving your car until fixed !! You may have a cracked fuel line or split fuel line. Your problem seems worse at lights because you are stationary with no air flow through your car to blow the fumes away. It is dangerous to drive as it is. All you need is a spark from a cigarette etc. Any doubt get it towed to a garage .

We also own a 2005 chevrolet impala with strong gas fumes, inside of the car driving or just idling..also fumes are strong when the car is just idlin. Took it to the mechanic and put the car on the rack,...

I would have someone check under the front of car while engine was running. Maybe then a gas leak could be spotted. Did he check the charcoal canister-it's a gas vapor collector from the gas tank, and maybe located at front of car. If the canister is full and not working to purge the canister and send the collected fuel and vapors into the engine, it might be what you are smelling.

Strong gas fumes coming from 2001 windstar

The "cause" would be a fuel system or EVAP system leak. If the fumes are that strong, then I would take the vehicle back to Ford again and make the sevice manager stick his nose in it and then tell you there is no problem....

At red light engine seems like it wants to cut off.

try changing your pcv valve. if its dirty it may be causing the shuttering. as for the check engine light going on and off, you may have a bad gas cap. if the cap is faulty it will cause the engine light to come on at times because of a poor air to fuel ratio.

Fumes escaping from ac vents inside vehicle while driving and leaves a film residue on inside of windshield whenever the heat or defrost are used.

Hello dedunwoodie.
Your heater core is beginning to leak coolant.
As the fan blows through it it is picking up the liquid and depositing it on your windshield.
It will need to be replaced to solve your problem.

Fuel economy is the same, it doesn't seem to be using more fuel? You need to have this checked out asap. Gas fumes are highly explosive, and a slight spark can set it off. Do not park the car inside a garage (fumes can build up, and just turning on a light switch in the garage can trigger an explosion). You may have a leak at an o-ring on one of the injectors, or somewhere along the fuel line. Gasoline evaporates rather quickly, so it may be a little difficult to locate. So, I agree, it may be the injectors (o-rings?), but not the lifters. Be careful, let me know what you find.
