Most Chrysler/dodge/jeep transmissions do not fill the torque converter or have cooler flow in park. You would need to check this in neutral and i do not recomend this.To answer the P0740 question I need to know if you have a 4 or 5 speed automatic.

2001 Jeep Grand Char., trans slips when making left turn only , 144000 miles, filter and fluid was changed

theres not much you can do about a slipping trans. its probly more noticable when you turn left because your left rear wheel is your primary drive wheel, it takes more force to move your car from the inside corner than the outside. be gentle on it and it may last you a while

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Shifting Problems

Check the Trans fluid level with it running and at operating temperature. Jeep NAG1 transmissions are known to have the input electric seal leak trans fluid. Not an exspensive fix add Mopar ATF4 and then relace the guild seal.

I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and I can't go from 4 to 2 there anything external to look at on the transfer case? Or any other suggestions. Thanks....

Try going in reverse while shifting the t-case to 2wd. Other than the linkage falling off, the problem could be in the t-case itself. Check the oil level on the t-case by removing the upper plug(there are two plugs, one is the lower drain and the upper is the fill). The fluid level is when the fluid is level with the bottom of the hole. The jeep takes auto trans. fluid in there.

Excess engine coolant consumption

check your trans fluid level, if its too much, replace your radiator and make a thorough flushings on your trans. apparently having your trans fluid contaminated will soon break your trans. check your oil level, if its too much you will need to replace your cylinder head.

Transmission wont shift into reverse

By the grayish color, fluid being thick, and metal shavings, the clutches are pretty much worn out. It's time to either rebuilding your transmission or just installing a good used one. The fluid normally should be a reddish color. The gray is from the actual clutch material going away.
