Feels like I'm being held back


Sounds like your brakes are sticking. Possibly the emergency brake is not disengaging entirely? Stop the car and put in park. Apply emergency brake as hard/far as possible. Then release and put in drive and try to go. Most emergency brakes are self adjusting. If the problem still persists, have it taken to your mechanic.

2005 Mountaineer 2 wheel drive, 6 cyl hard to shift when parked on incline or decline and doesnt feel like shifting into overdrive. Sometimes jump a few inches when put into reverse. Any thoughts.


Yes when you park on an incline you should always put your emergency brake on before shifting to park. Then whenyou are ready to move again put you car in gear before disengaging the emergency brake. this will remove the stress from the transmission.

Have it towed to a shop! Do not drive this car! It seems that either your brake master cylinder or the brake booster or both have failed. You can no longer count on having brakes when you need them.

HONDA CIVIC 2001 rear brakes put on new brakes they dont have a short shoe for emergancy brake i have adjusted them they make a light clunking noise and brand new drums on the rear this car is driving me...


Hi, When you adjust them they should have a light drag as the wheel spins. The E brake should be the same on both sides. As for the noise I hope you bought the OE (original equipment) brake shoes. The other brands will squeal. Good Luck

Hello, The rear rotor has 2 sets of brakes on it. The other thing is to look for slight movement in the driveshaft when it clunks. Depending on the rearend, some have to have both rear wheels off the ground to turn each side. And of course the trans in Neutral.

With the rear wheel you have an Emergency brake and a drum brake inside the center of the Rotor.
The rear of the brake backing plate has a rubber plug which is covering the Star-wheel adjustment for those drum brakes. You can try to loosen the Star-wheel to disengage the Emergency brake shoes. You can try pulling the brake cables toward the cab, to loosen the cables.

If this does not help, your Emergency brake shoe probably rusted off the brake mount and is jammed inside the drum. The linings fall off the metal like banana skins. I can tell you that if the Emergency brakes are a State safety requirement, you need to consider new rotors because the drum portion is usually trashed with rust.

Put car in park.
Step on brake.
Start car.
Put car in Drive.

When i hit the gas i feel a clunk in the steering


check the motor mounts. It is possible that you are hearing the engine hit the firewall. You need yourself and one other person to perform a test. With the hood open start the engine. Put the emergency brake on and have one person stand on either side of the engine. The other person in the driver seat hold the brake pedal down hard with your left foot, put the car in gear (drive, then reverse) and rev the motor a few times. The person out side the car should look for the engine moving when the engine rpm increase.

Jeep stuck in low four wheel drive


Put the transmission in neutral, emergency brake off, foot off the brake pedal, now try shifting out of 4 wheel drive low. If that doesn't work, drive forward, and again do the above, trans. in neutral, roll to a stop, foot off brake, try to disengage. What you're probably experiencing is called drive shaft 'wind up', and it is very difficult to disengage, but do the above and it should shift out of 4 low. countrycurt0
