Question about Toyota Camry
Hi, it is likely your system is low on refrigerant. When the pressure is too low, the pressure sensor will not allow the compressor to engage. Your system will have to be charged with R-134a to restore proper operation. To verify this is the problem, find the pressure sensor on the larger of the two A/C aluminum lines (the one that goes from the radiator area to the firewall and on inside the car), pull the connector off, and use a paper clip to connect the two terminals in the connector. This should turn the compressor on and allow the system to be charged. Verify that the light will now come on when pressed. Use a can of R-134a and a charge hose to recharge the system. The charge port is along the same larger line that the sensor is on. It will have a cap on it and looks a lot like a tire valve but larger. If your charge hose will not fit on the port, you are probably at the wrong port--the high pressure port is larger than the charge port and is on the smaller line that goes from the compressor to the condenser. Once the system is recharged, you can remove the paper clip and reconnect the sensor wire. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.
