Battery light stays on

I have a 1981 corvette 350 4 barrel carb quad jet that won't start. The car was stored all winter. I took the car for a drive and parked it for an hour. When I went to put the car in the garage it would not start and the battery was dead. I used a battery charger to charge the battery it would not keep a charge so I bought a new battery the next day. The battery light on the dash stays on all the time when its turned off. The car still won't start. Any clue whats going on with the car?

Many possibilities but the alternator is a good place to start, if its plug is loose, then the green relay inside the center console just to the left and slightly in front of the emergency brake will be clicking in connecting and disconnecting the battery( one loud click per time). It will need replacing or simply disconnecting works for the short budget.

Check engine light stays on. changed oxygen sensor, pcv valve, coolant sensor, switched out PROM chip, and cannot get a code to blink. replaced all hoses coming off carb. smog pump and egr valve been...

what you could start with is checking to see what trouble codes are being logged for this vehicle...if the engine light stays on, it means the ecu is registering a fault......by the means of a trouble code...now the trouble code doesnt tell you how to fix it, but it does give you the direction to go down...judst wondering if you have tried to obtain the trouble codes

Stored my 1989 corvette for the winter. Just tried to start it, and the battery is dead. I jump started the car and it ran for about 7-8 minutes and then shut off. Had to re-jump and again, car won't

At first blush, sounds like corrosion on the battery cables either at the battery or at the other end at the alternator or starter. There are several sprays at the auto parts store that will clear the corrosion but the best way is to remove the cables and clean both the cable ends and the posts. Once you're able to rule out the cables/connections having the charging system checked would be next point of order but its more likely to be the cables. A car that won't run on it's own isn't getting enough power from the alternator so I'd check the negative cable first.
