Question about 2003 Ford Focus

I thought the steering column had lock up and in the process of turning the wheel to try and start the car, i made the wheel loose. you can wiggle it up and down, and side to side. the problem ended up being the ignition, but now i need to know how serious the wheel being loose is.

Not a big problem, most vehicles with any age to them the wheel will become loose like that, it does not affect the steering capability, but if it annoys you and you want to fix it you will have to replace the bearins in the steering wheel.

I have a 95 camaro, I put the key in ignition and it will not turn the ignition. It's like it's stuck. Replaced the ignition module and still cannot turn ignition. Help!

the ignition module (ignition switch on top of the steering column) normally doesn't get stuck.

things you can try:
steering wheel lock: (the pin gets a "burr" on it and locks everything up) wiggle steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn key.

transmission lock (parking on an incline will jam up the interlock)
push the shifter farther into park while trying to turn the key, or wiggle shifter

Steering wheel locked

It locks with the key turned off, if it wont unlock with the key on, wiggle the steering wheel hard if need be bask and forth and it may break loose ? sounds like it is getting worn on the lock system inside the steering column may need to replace the switch.

Ignition switch will not engage/push in/turn to start car

Disconnect your battery and try the key. If it works, the car has an electric lockout latch that is malfunctioning inside the lock. If the lock still won't turn with the battery loose, try wiggling the steering wheel (to relax the steering wheel lock pin) and jiggling the key. Either of these two wiggles making the key operate means worn out key or lock cylinder. Oh, also make sure the car is in neutral or park.

Steering wheel locked. How do i unlock it?

Try wiggling the steering wheel while turning the key. If that does not work the locking device has broken apart inside the column and will need to be town down to inspect

I cant start my van because the key wont turn.

Try putting a little oil from the dip stick on a key, then try it. Or spray some WD-40 into the lock.

Key will turn to start in my 1994 K1500

This solution more than likely will require internal steering column inspection.First make sure the entire steering column is not loose. If you can move the steering wheel w/column from side to side or up and down more than 1/2 inch it's loose.Sometimes the key will engage while wiggling the steering column. There are 3 torx bolts deep inside the column that need tightening.Second, the Ignition key cylinder may be bad and need replacing

Key won't turn and steering wheel is locked

Have you tried wiggling the steering wheel at the same time as you turn the key? Have you tried pushing on the gear shift lever, to make sure it's all the way in park?

I have a 1973 Camaro with the factory tilt steering column and it's starting to get loose. What does it take to fix this? Are there any part breakdown diagrams?

if you can, pull steering wheel, steering lock wheel(spring compressor needed, from auto parts store, free) pull signal switch (three screws) out far enogh to see tilt mechinizm, there are three black bolts to be tightened, if you wiggle the tilt column you should see them loose, a small socket will fit star shaped bolt heads

Hello, my steering wheel is locked! I tried wiggling the wheel and turning the key and that didnt solve the problem. Let me mention the ignition would not turn over in the first place, even when my car...

All you need to do is turn your steering wheel to the left all the way till it stops then put your key in while still holding the steering wheel to the left, turn the key to the on position this should release your steering wheel!
