My 1999 chevy lumina will not start, the battery is fine, but when the key is turned, it doesn't even click. May be the starter, but not sure?

It will either be the starter solenoid or the ignition switch being faulty. Check those, if you are unfamiliar with the components i suggest you take it to a repair shop. Those are cheap fixes even if you have someone do it for you. I hope i was able to help. Please rate if i did.

Thank you!

Well, the starter was bad and we have replaced it, but now there is no voltage coming from the ignition wire. What do we do to fix this?

IF there is not power coming from the ign. wire you need to replace the ign. switch. If you have any other issues or if this help please rate my comment higher. It affects my ability to spend hours on a prolem onloy to make $5, haha. Thank you. Let me know if you have any other questions.

My 1997 chevy lumina will not start it just makes a clicking sound when i tr to turn te key

Sounds as if you have a bad starter. The vehicle running differently when cold is a whole different issue that has nothing to do with the starter. Below is a picture of the starter and its location. You can have someone turn the key as if to start the car while you actually touch the starter. If it is bad you will feel it trying to enguage or click inside. I'm guessing that's the clicking noise you hear. If the vehicle is in a bad location and you need to move it in order to replace the starter, again while someone is turning the key to start the car you can tap on it with a small hammer or something and GM starters are pretty good about loosening up and starting while you are tapping on it. This doesn't fix the problem it just will get you going so you can move it. This "tapping" works about 85 percent of the time on GM starters. Either way if you feel the starter trying to go with somebody turning the key, more than likely you are dealing with a bad starter. Hope this helps.

Starter justs clicks

One single click when you turn the key to start the vehicle usually indicates a bad starter.

A series of rapid clicks when you turn the key to start usually indicates a weak or bad battery.

I have 1999 chevy lumina, car will not start, battery is fine. Husband has to jump through the starter and senoid to start car, what would cause this??

it could need a new starter, but make sure you check all the earth leads coming from the battery one should be bolted to the starter where it meets the engine make sure this has not broken also undo and clean behind the earth lead from the battery where it joins the body of the car and the engine remove the wire clean behind it so you have good connection then try again.

let me know how you get on ok

1999 chevy lumina turn key and nothing happens, no click or anything. Battery OK Help please

Check your fuse panels first, and make sure none are blown. There should be one under the hood somewhere and one inside the car. If they are all ok, then it may be a fusible link in the power supply wire that goes from the battery to the starter, or you could have a faulty igntion switch(not the part you put the key, but an electrical part that is either inside behind the key switch or mounted below it on the steering column. Or it could be a faulty starter solenoid on the starter itself. Or the wires on the starter are loose.

1999 chevy lumina with a new battery that will not turn over. AAA can jump it and it will start and run for ever until it is turned off then it will not start again. Jumping it from another car usually...

because aaa can jump start it and you can't sounds like maybe the battery cables are curroided (dirty)
in-between the battery post and the clamps, clean the battery terminals and charge your battery as a loose conection can run down even a new battery

1999 chevy lumina will not start

If you crank the engine with the headlights on and the lights do not go dim there is no current going to the starter. This could be;
  • A worn ignition switch, usually caused by a heavy bunch of keys swinging on the switch for years. Try and crank the engine whilst wiggling the key in the switch. If it cranks, that is your problem.
  • The starter solenoid might be dead, so it won't allow the starter to crank.
  • Doubtful, but a blown fuse.

some are fused and has relay. check fuse and relays. replace with the same type, you could try to interchange the relays if they are of the same type.
