Question about 1986 Chevrolet K1500

1 Answer

VEHICAL DISCRIPTION: 1986 chevy 1/2 ton truck - 350 Motor, 2 Wheel drive, Automatic, Disc brakes in the front & Drum brakes in the back. PROBLEM: Rear passenger tire is LOCKING UP. The inside wheel well gets BLISTERING HOT from the friction. NOTE: I have had the following replaced a tota; of THREE TIMES in the last 4-5 months: BRAKE SHOES / BRAKE HARDWARE / BEARINGS & SEALS and yet, the problem keeps RE-OCCURING! Now, AFTER the above mentioned parts have been replaced.... EVERYTHING is (or seems) GREAT! No problems at all. Then, out of the blue.... I will be leaving for work, or whatever and SHE'S LOCKED UP AGAIN!!!! However, I have found that to get the wheel UN-LOCK...I have to back up several feet and then it will go forward although you can still feel some drag. (IT ROLLS BACKWARDS WITHOUT A PROBLEM!) Can someone please tell me what the problem is! :-) ***PLEASE.......I am SOO tired of this happening! This truck is horrible on gas when its at its best.... IMAGINE WHAT I PAY WHEN I HAVE A TIRE THAT WANTS TO DRAG!! Ughh....!

1994 chevy 1/2 ton with 10 inch drum brakes that I cant figure out how auto adjustor works and where spring hooks

there is a lever attached to a shoe that activates on the notched wheel of the adjuster bar. The same notched wheel that is used to adjust the brakes through the back or drum. When the shoes moves from the braking action the spring pulls the lever and turns the notched wheel. this is repeated every time the brakes are applied until there is a position where the lever cannot get into the next notch.Any drum brake set up with automatic brake adjustment will look the same so any chev manual will show how to put it together.

92 Chevy pickup front tier heats up and shakes the vehical after driving for a few minutes

I'm going to guess that you are complaining about a brake caliper failing to release the rotor when you take your foot off the brake pedal. I had this problem with my 1989 Chev Cheyenne 1/2 Ton Pickup. The brake would lock down and the wheel would become quite warm. I replaced the caliper unit, but that didn't solve the problem. The problem turned out to be a bad flexible brake hose at that wheel. Incredibly, these hoses wear out and are susceptible to collapsing internally causing a restriction in the fluid flow. The hose looked fine from the outside. Once a put a new one on, problem solved! This might be your problem, too.

Other causes could be a malfunctioning proportioning valve, a malfunctioning power brake booster unit, a binding brake pedal, binding brake pads or a sticking piston in the caliper.
