Question about 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 1995 Grand Cherokee Laredo -2wd- for which I do not have an owner's manual. At highway speeds when I engage the overdrive button, and the light comes on, the engine RPM increases, instead of decreasing...?? What am I doing wrong?

The light illuminates to tell you that the overdrive is off, that is why your engine RPM's go up. When the light is on, the overdrive is off.

drop the pan and change the filter and gasket, that might buy you some time if it is not too far gone.
i don't know how many quarts of transmission fluid are required for this task but the part store should have it in their computer

Is my 1994 jeep grand cherokee laredo quadtrax

If your 4wd selector has three positions (including neutral) you have quadratrack. If you have more, it's not.
Quadratrack has no position for selecting 2wd because it does that by itself, only engaging the front wheels when the rear wheels begin to slip.

Replaced transmission seal then on 2 different occasions going down highway at bout 65 to 70 miles hour transmission kept shifting btween overdrive n drive come to a stop n take off didnt do it again...

Computer controlled transmissions can get confused at times, from my personal experience. If the problem doesn't happen again, I would ignore it. If it happens all the time, it's most likely the transmission computer. Other things could be the shift linkage, engine vacuum leak, speed sensor, etc... Hope this helps.

1995 jeep laredo overdrive is not shifting

Your overdrive should kick in at about 45mph, pretty much at or about 2000rpm. To see if it engaged, lightly touch the brake pedal and it will disengage. It should also disengage when you mash the pedal down to go into passing gear, and re-engage when conditions "normalize" again. You can tell that it has engaged because the tach will drop a few hundred rpms. If it's not doing this, a simple trans oil change (with filter) may correct the problem. OD is activated by a shift solenoid on the valve body that may be a bit gummed up.
95's show a shift control module on some diagrams I've seen, but not on others. I read this as a possible "half-year change" So you may or not have one. If you do, I'd check that as well!
