On a Ford system you need a code reader, no other way. The plug is under the steering column.

Correction the plug is in the engine compartment, it looks like a lop sided triangle

That is not true. You can pull the codes without a scanner on fords eec4 system. You only need a volt meter with a needle instead of digital and a jumper wire..Here is a link that shows you in detail. With a diagram...

1992 is not OBD2,it takes a connector called the F1B,and there is no way to get the code out without a scan tool. The little inexpensive code readers, the ones that cost $60-$80 are for OBD2 connectors which weren't implemented until 1996,so you have no option but to use a scan tool,Snap On,Genisys, etc. On older Cadillacs, like 92...you could press on the climate controls..OFF and WARMER at the same time, and the vehicle would go into self diagnostic mode, and give you the code and description, but Cad is the only one i know of that had that feature.Good luck.

Intermittent misses can be caused by bad coils, dirty fuel injectors, and bad o2 sensors, to name a few.

My 4 WD light is blinking and the ABS light came on the same day. Is there anyway to fix it at home without going to the dealer?

The only way to know what is wrong is to get the code(s) read. You don't have to go to the dealer for that. Any shop that has the capabiliity to read ABS codes can help you diagnose the problem and probably fix it too. As a rule the code readers that you can buy at the parts stores DON'T read ABS codes. There are specific code readers for that.

The VSC TRAC, Slip Indicator and Check engine lights just came on I don't know what is wrong.

Go to a major auto parts store and ask for them to read out your diagnostic trouble codes. They will usually do that for free. When the check engine light comes on, the car's computer has trouble codes that are waiting in memory to be read by a code reader. Most major auto parts stores have a code reader--ready and waiting to help customers find out what is wrong. Write back here with your codes and we can help you too!

Is there anyway you can see why the check engine light comes on without a scanner?

You could buy an inexpensive code reader ($75.00) or take to the auto parts store,if they do for free.
then what ? They may not know what the code is.

Codes don't tell you anything is wrong or what to replace.

You need vehicle system knowledge to diagnose

What could be wrong if the service vehicle light is on. Not the engine light just the vehicle light.

Hard to say without a code reader but the good news is autozone advanced auto will read the code for free and oreilly auto parts will rent you the reader for a fee and i believe when you return it they will refund the money

2005 kia reo check engine light is on ?

If you go to an advanced auto part store or another auto store they will sometimes scan your car for free. They should be able to tell you what is wrong with it.

Sounds like the same thing that happened to my car. Mine did the same thing and it turned out to be the MAF.

Just remember to unplug your battery when you fix your problem. Sometimes the codes wont erase without the dealer going in and entering the "cheater" code. You'll be stuck with seeing the thing and not knowing if its fixed or not.

Want to know about this code reader

I'm not sure if an obd2 will work on your year...I own a 93 formula and have a obd1 reader. It is for 92 or 93 GM to 98 GM vehicles. It works extremely well for what you would be using it for. It won't tell you exactly what is wrong, but will definately point you in the right direction.

TCM codes

I'm having the same problems actually. Mine started with the transmission line popping off and spilling all of my fluid on the highway. Fun times and long story heh...anyhow, I believe that there is a special code reader for the p-0700 issues.

Does your car make a high pitched "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" sound when you turn your key on, without the engine started?
