Thanks for choosing FixYa. More then likely, you are going to have to change the ignition module and lock cylinder. You can try moving the wheel back and forth. Make sure the shifter is engaged fully in park. I would say you have probably already tried this. Honestly, there is no other way around it and repairs will be quite high. It is no easy fix as well. Sorry for the news. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for using FixYa.

There is an internal failure in the ignition switch. Replace the switch. You can get them at any auto parts store, it includes the switch and 2 new keys. Please rate solution if this helps. Have a great day!

My key is stuck in the ignition.

Your car has several different ignition positions. They each offer slightly different functionality.
Off: In this position, the engine is off, and so are your electronic accessories (unless the delay has not expired yet). You can still turn on lights (headlights, interior lights, etc.).
ACC: This is the accessory position. Turn the key to ACC if you want to listen to the radio, play a CD or use other accessories without cranking the engine.
On: In this position, all of the electronics should come on. This is also the position that the key will return to after cranking the engine.
Start: Turn the key to this position to crank the engine. Let go of the key when the engine is running and the key will return to the on position.

I use to own a car that had an ignition that was ACC - OFF - ON - START.

Try turning your ignition one position clockwise and see if the radio turns off and the key comes out.

2004 saturn Ion ignition key will not turn smoothy. I have to wiggle my key and then it will turn. On a few occations the key wont turn backwards past ACC. When it was in the ACC position I could...

Try puffing some powder graphite into the key slot and inserting and removing the key several times. The tumbler pins get dry and jam in the holes and will not move so the graphite is the recommended lubricant for locks. Be careful as it leaves black residue that has to be cleaned with a wet clean rag.

Key wont move ignition switch past ACC to start position. Purchased new key and still doesn't work.

The actual ignition switch, the electrical switch which the key cylinder turns, is probably bad. It is made of plastic and does eventually wear out. Have that part checked out.

Ignition switch won't turn on!

In the same boat and Saturn just plain sucks. Glad they are shutting their doors. You ignition lock cylinder is bad. Good thing is that its stupid simple to fix bad news is the ignition has to be the ACC position to pull it out. Another real smart move these idiots decided to do. If you have a bad ignition lock you have a 50-50 chance it will seize in the freakin lock position making it impossible to get it to the ACC position. Anyway here is the link to a utude exact video on how to pull it out in 2 minutes to replace if your lucky and can get it to the ACC position.
