Question about Porsche 911

1 Answer

Purchased a set of 4 car dollies to be able to move my 1985 porsche 911 around the garage. I don't know where to place the car jack to lift the car so that I can place the other 2 car dollies under the rear tires. Not sure where to position the jack for each rear tire. There doesn't appear to be any designated place and I don't have the manual to check. Any help.

Porsche 993 timing chain mark

hello there
For you Porsche there is no mark on timing gear. You need to use a special tool made by Porsche which is connected in the back of the camshaft tower to set the timing on cams.

How do I change the oil on a Porsche 911 Turbo? Anything I sould know?

  • Jack up your Porsche using a floor jack and place the car securely on jack stands at all four corners using the factory jacking points.
  • 2 Place an oil container under the oil drain plug of the motor.
  • 3 Using an 8-mm allen socket, remove the drain plug at the bottom of the oil pan.
  • 4 Let the oil drain thoroughly--this will take about 20 to 25 minutes.
  • 5 Once all the oil is drained from the engine, install a new drain plug along with a new aluminum sealing washer. Tighten the drain plug to 37 lbs .

  • The oil filter cartridge is located in front of the oil pan on the right side. With an oil filter removal wrench, unscrew and remove the cartridge. Be careful of spilling oil.
  • Install a new oil filter cartridge and O-ring. Before installation, run a bead of oil around the O-ring to lubricate it. Torque the oil filter cartridge to 19 lbs.
  • Pour new oil into the oil filler neck located in the engine bay. 1998 to 2001 911s (996) take 8.5 quarts, and 2004 and up take 8.25 quarts. Newer 911s (997) take 9 quarts. When filling the engine with oil, pour in 8 quarts and then use the dipstick to get the amount of oil exact.
  • Lower the car off the jackstands.

How to change a battery on 1985 porsche carrera

Pop the hood, the battery is up front driver's side, under the carpet. Disconnect the terminals, replace with battery the same size and with the terminals on the same sides as the old one, clean off the terminal ends before re clamping, you should be all set. Hope this helps.

Headlight doors wont't open anymore on my 1985 911 porche turbo slant nose . Is there a fuse that controls this ? Where is it located?

I thought they were vacuum assisted? Not electric, I don't know about the Porsche, but most cars were vacuum. Look for a crack in the hose or listen for an air leak. Put a vacuum line on it and see if it opens. Check it out.
