Question about 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

If it's not starting but the engine turns normally when you turn the key, you are looking in the wrong places. Your starters job is to turn the engine so it's able to start. It does not start the engine. Your alternators only job is to re-charge the battery when the engine is running...it too does not start the engine.
First thing you need to do is listen at the tank to see if the fuel pump runs when you turn the key on.
if the pump runs then that's OK. if not, check the relay. Pump needs to pump to get fuel from the tank to the engine. Next thing is to have a code scan done. Failed parts in the engine management system will give a code that's stored in the computer. If you cannot do that, buy a chilton or haynes manual and get a digital volt / ohmmeter and do individual component tests 'till you find a component that's out of range. Though the system is relatively simple, without testing you will end up changing a good number of expensive parts 'till you guess at the correct one.
Always do testing with a fully charged battery or your test results will be incorrect.
Only other option is to have a good shop take a look at it.
