Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1995 Chevy silverado with a 5.7. Was running fine i stopped at a stoplight and it died. It was hard starting, i had to turn the AC off to get it to start, then had to 2 feet it home. Now it starts and idles rough, it does the surge thing when in park. When i put it in gear the truck dies, when i turn AC on the truck dies. When i try to drive it, and give it gas the truck runs rough and has no power at all once i get RPMS above 2200 the truck runs just fine. Truck runs great on the high way but dies when i stop. I have changed spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, cleaned injectors and i THINK i got all vacuum lines checked for leaks. what am i missing.

    I have roughly the same problem on my 95 silverado only I have replaced most of the sensors, rebuilt the throttlebody and have no vacum leaks, and in park, the rpm's pulsate from 500 to 900. once i get going, it runs perfect. to this day it is still acting up. I'm starting tothink I might have a faulty ecm. any suggestions before I spend alot of cash.

    truck will run and I will drive it around then out of the blue the truck will just stop running , sometimes its hard to restart like its not getting any fuel

I have experienced this problem on similar vehicles. You should try and replace the coolant temp sensor. If it is not reading the correct temp to the ecm, it will not get the right fuel map. Also, the cts will not always throw a code.

Check the iac. idle air control. it is either this or the tps. both cost about forty bucks each.

Everyone has an opinion and mine is the tps throttle positioning sensor. if it runs ok in park but then runs like **** when in drive? tps sensor

Same thing happened twice to my 1996 5.7L. changed the EGR valve, all was good after that. The valve gets clogged, sometimes you can clean it out a little to get you home. On the 96 it is located on the top of the motor on the front.

if it has a carby ( you didn't bother to mention carby or EFI), have the carby overhauled as from your description, the accelerator and power sections of the carby are not working, Blocked jets or low float levels
if it is EFI have the fault codes read to check for MAF/VAF sensors and/ or heated oxygen sensor problems
your description indicates that the engine is not getting excess fuel to provide engine rpm acceleration be it either carby or electronic system

Sounds like your rear end may be going out, check your diff.

Car dies when it warms up. just replaced carb, think it has to do with this


Vapor lock again! Make sure the fuel lines are away from hot surfaces, or insulated.
Also, when it warms up, the automatic choke turns off, and the idle setting has to be set to run at that temp. There will be idle jets, maybe two, and idle stop setting for the linkage.

have u checked into getting new sparkplugs, wires, coil/coil packs distributor. could even be a timing issue. id start at these things and c if it helps

It's hard to figure out whats going on with out any codes. Im thinking maybe the fuel pump. To check it after it stops and doe'snt start squirt some starting fluid into the carb and see if it wants to start. If it trys to start then it's a fuel problem.
