I would start by watching closely at the hoses. That is the most common cause of power steering leaks.

First look at the hoses coming from the pump and follow them down. Also look at the pump itself, especially where the pulley shaft comes out of the pump body. When you come to a damp or wet dripping spot, that's where your leak is. If the leak isn't obvious, start the engine and check everything again...just keep your hands out of the engine compartment so you don't get injured!!

Testimonial: "thank you, i will check this out after work today. might put a peice of cardboard down under jeep and see where it is dripping at. "

Putting cardboard down will verify a leak but won't tell you too much else. A leak at one point can travel as the fluid runs and drips from part to part. You actually need to look at the parts themselves as I outlined. Look at the pump, hoses and the parts the hoses are connected to.

How to bleed power steering fluid of 97 Acura 3.0 CL

This all assumes you don't have a leak somewhere.
There are two lines on your power steering pump. One is going to the steering box, and one is coming back from it. The outlet hose has a bolt holding it, the inlet hose just has a clamp. pull the hose off that has a clamp and put into a can or something that can catch the fluid. Make sure you fill the reservoir all the way. While you are out of the way, have someone start the car, and be ready to turn it off. Let it pump fluid and then add new fluid. Do this until it is coming out clean. Put it back together and run it, then check the fluid level again. PLEASE ONLY USE GENUINE HONDA fluid, it really does make a difference. That may be why it is making noise.l

When i turn my steering wheel it makes an awful whinning sound. The first time this happened i put Lucas stop leak power steering fluid in and it stopped. that was mayb a month ago, and now it's doing...

You have a leak somewhere.. If filling the pump does not stop the noise then the pump is going bad. Be sure the leak is at the pump before you change the pump or else the new pump might go bad as well from being low on fluid.

Its likely that filling the pump back up should stop the noise though unless you have run it a while its empty.

My 1991 dodge ram charger has a power steering problem, the reservoir is completely empty in 3 hours after having filled it. what do you think is the problem

Well it is either a power steering hose, the pump itself, or the power steering gearbox leaking.

hoses would be the first thing to look at. Fill it with fluid then with the engine running,. have someone turn the wheel back and forth while you look under the hood. You will see something leaking out if it is that bad of a leak.

hi sorry i cant help with the warranty, but it sounds like the seals or a seal has gone on the rack, have a look under the vehicle for any fluid residue, sometimes it takes allot to fill the powe stearing, best way to do it is fill the resivior up while motor is running and trun full lock one way then back the other , keep doing this untill you get it back, also if you cant see under the vehicle get a large peice of cardboard place it on the floor where you normally park, the turn the wheel a few times, this way it will tell tale if you have a leak, although if the fluid was empty you possibly do have one but try it anyway, just another tip, you can actually buy a special fluid that will reviterlise the seals in the rack it might be worth looking into that first before you replace it, also, have a look at the connections where the fluid goes into, they might just be loose and need nipping up again hope that will help

I have a 97 taurs with a steering problem. It makes a humming noise that gets louder the faster I go. It pulls to the right, an when I go around a left corner it feels like it just doesn't want to turn...

check to see if you have power steering fluid. if your low fill it up. (most cases thats all it is) check around for any leaks or parts to the power steering unit for and damage (hoses, pump, rer, rack and pinion, any seals or such. you might have a leak somewhere. when your looking for leaks fill the res up with power steering fluid. turn the car on. and have someone turn the wheel so get the fluid to build up pressure in the system.

Leaking Hydraulic Fluid

Power steering fluid is the only thing the car has resembling hydralic fluid. If you follow the rubber hose all the way around from the pump to the gear box, possibly with the car running and the wheel being turned back and forth by someone while you look, you should find your leak. This is assuming it is powersteering fluid. Check your pump. Is it low? Rubber hose probably turns to steel line somewhere along the path from pump to gearbox, hope that helps ya a touch.

I have a leak in my Power Steering fluid as well in my 1990 Toyota Celica, how do I identify where the leak is? - It's a fast leak, I filled it up less than 24 hours ago and it's almost completely empty, also when I make turns it makes an odd sound, which I assume is because of the leak... help please!!
