That is 1.4 metric tons, that is allot of weight, that is the problem, not the trans type, you are really pushing the limits of the SUV's tow capacity. Careful or you will burn up the transmission.

Tow ball weight, is tow ball weight included in caravan weight when attached to car I am towing with a Toyota Diesel Turbo Prado 2004. Tow ball weight 250, Caravan Weight 2620kgs

No as it is part of the car not the caravan. The weight is minimal anyway. You are measuring hitch weight, the amount of force exerted downwards (hopefully) on the rear of the vehicle.

Tow ball weight for 1998 105R SERIES LANDCRUISER toyota

most tow bar specifications state 300-400 kgs is the maximum weight allowed ( best if the toyota is a long wheel base )
if you have something heavy on the bar you should be using load lever stabilizer bars from the bar to the "A" frame of the towed unit
these effectively reduce the weight on the ball by transferring the load to the vans wheels and the toyota front wheels
they reduce sway from uneven roads and passing trucks, improve driving stability on the toyota and reduce the load on the toyota drive tires
you measure the tow ball weight by lifting on the ball coupling of the van
best talk with bar specialist fitting shops and retailers that sell van accessories
don't forget you are legally limited by the weight you can tow by the vehicle towing specifications and for most late vehicle that tops out at 3000kgs --early vehicles it is less than 2000kgs

I have just ordered a new caravan with a ball weight of 175kg. do I need a weight distribution hitch?

A question often ask and much disregarded
although the tow bar weight is within limits
the load distribution bars ( torque bars -stabilizer bars --sway bars etc) not only help distribute the load but act in such a way as to stop the trailer /caravan for developing the sway that tends to make the driver loose control at speed
they also , when properly adjusted, keep the ride height of the towing vehicle level and that improves stability
remember that although the bar weight is 175 kgs that amounts to a load of 525kgs over the rear axle or extra 525 kgs on the rear tires ( mass multiplied by distance from drive axle or rear wheels assuming the distance from the axle/tires to the tow ball is i meter---heavier if the bar is further back from the tires )
to use the distribution bars lifts that weight off the rear axle and places more of the load on the trailer wheels
As a result the car / trailer combination is much safer to operate than without the bars

Over heating problem and problems associated with duel fuel

If the overheating occurs when on gas (LPG) I would be looking at a problem converter /regulator for the gas as it may be too lean under load . If you have a viscous fan hub then that will also cause over heating as the engine is working hard but there is little air flow through the radiator because the fan is not drawing sufficient air to cool it.. As the octane rating for petrol and LPG is much then same then Make sure that the ignition timing is correct. Find a service shop that specialises in LPG fuel cars and they may have a dyno that they use to get optimum performance out of both fuels .

2007 SWB Pajero

A short wheel based vehicle would be the last vehicle I would be towing load of up to 2 tons with. It has the capability to do what you want HOWEVER it does not have the wheel base length to give directional stability when towing. What does that mean ? If you get into a situation where the trailer starts to steer the towing vehicle ( horse moves around and shifts the load position) the distance between the front and back wheels is too short and the towing vehicle will loose control easily.

1999 series 2 discovery TD5 auto.

Its not a tractor and i wouldnt tow with a automatic anyway as i think its dangerous as no engine braking but? now without a drive i honestly couldnt give you a concrete answer but i do suspect a worn pinion on one of the diffs or maybe something worn in the transfer box which is more than money than this vehicle is worth no doubt so put some STP additive in the diff and transfer box ,use the one for the engine oil as this will help or pump some LM grease into each unit ,or buy a new vehicle which is no doubt cheaper as if this is a big petrol engine then its a worthless old vehicle a diesel will hold its price though even more so in europe

My 2006 L200 only overheats when I tow my caravan I dont overload it and I dont exeed 60 when I drive around town or on any other journeys it does not overheat and it is not losing water

you are in fact overloading your L200 by towing a caravan, the weight your towing is about 1.5-2 tons which is more than a 1ton truck should be hauling.the extra weight causes the motor to work harder thus run hotter and is why it doesn`t overheat when not towing it.the only common denomenator is you towing the van.thus the van is too heavy for your vehicle to tow without any problem.

My 2003 pajero exceed turbo diesel A/t temp keeps coming on while i am towing a caravan so I stop /wait switch on & go then stop later & keep repeating till I reach my destination approx 2hrs...

According to what you have mentioned it seems that the weight is far heavier than normal. But as a test I would suggest you test vehicle without towing anything behind. See if there is any difference in temp. Hope this helps.
