A few things that can be done is to do a full tune up: Plugs, wires cap, rotor, air filter and oil change. That will help. Also replacing or cleaning sensors like the Throttle position valve, Air intake valve, Air Temperature sensor and O2 sensors will greatly improve economy. Those sensors help to determine the proper air/ fuel ratio. if the mix is too lean or rich you will burn through gas. These relatively cheap repairs will definately help. i did all this to my 99' ram 4x4 last week and increased MPG from 9.8 to 13.4 mpg.
