It can be the switch but if you have taken it apart cleaned it and same issue, it can be another part of the card, here is what i found from autorepai (TM) I would suggest cleaning and regapping the plugs, or just replacing them, and then try to start the car. If it does start then gas fouling was the cause of the no-start condition.

Then the question becomes; why did the plugs get gas fouled? Was it really cold and excess fuel got dumped into the engine? Are the plugs old and worn out? Maybe the distributor cap is cracked and needs to be replaced.

hope this helps.

Sounds like you may need to replace the keylock cylinder which is where the key goes into and turns to start the car. I would first look for loose connections. let me know how this goes

What your going to have to do is use a testlight to test for power arriving at the small wire at the starter while someone holds the key in start position.
If you find that you are getting power there, try tapping on the body of the starter with a hammer while someone tries to start it. If you have power at that wire and the hammer triggers something, you have a bad starter. If you don't have any power at that wire, then we'll have to do some troubleshooting through the rest of the circuit.

Hope that helps.......

It sounds like the ignition itself. Most likely a bad connection, You can replace just the cylinder, I would first have it checked with a multimeter when its not doing it.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.
Thanks,
Lee

I meant when its not starting you can test and see where the connection is bad. It definitely doesn't sound like the key though. If you have a moment to accept and rate my solution I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Lee

The ignition is stuck on my 99 Nissan Altima. We

Have you tried to turn the wheel far to the left as you try to turn the key? Also try to turn the key backwards in the ignition while holding wheel to the left. If those don't work, maybe try sliding the key in with a little WD-40 as this will lubricate the ribs in the ignition slightly and just insert/remove key slowly and quickly a few times and then try the steps above.

Does the car have a key release button? Sometimes these get stuck with the wheel turned slightly and the ribs of the ignition will not close on the key to allow for operation of the ignition.

Let me know,

MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA HAVE A STARTING PROBLEM.Sometimes it starts at other times it doen't not even with a kick noise.bettery is new, all fuses seem ok.tell me what could be the problem?

The ignition coils are a very common problem of shorting out over time on the Nissans.

I would go to a local shop to have the coils checked and the fuel pump pressure checked.

Good Luck

Lost original car alarm control... need to reset a new one...

programing a Nissan remote , is hidden secret by Nissan Dealers. As a Nissan Technician i will share it.

Just get in your vech , close all doors. Using your power lock switch , lock all doors. After doors are locked take your Ignition Key and insert it and remove it from ignition switch in a slow fashion , but consitant pace. (97 and earlyer are fast) When you see the hazzard lights flash, put key in ignition switch and turn to the On postion .. Do NOT CRANK or you will have to Start over .. After in the On postion .. Hit the Lock button on remote... Hazzard lights should flash..( note..you have to reprogram all remotes when adding a new one , if you don't your old remotes will not work ) If your doing just the one , turn igntion switch off and unlock door and get out and try it. If you are doing more than one. While still in Vech with Key on . After you hit the Lock button on Remote and hazzard light flashed .. with key still on .. use master lock switch unlock doors and relock and then hit Second Remote, Lights should flash again , repeat if adding a 3rd remote.. after done just turn key off and unlock door and get out and try.

my 97 geo metro will not start when I turn the ignition key. The radio will work, buzzer etc. I can jump it with another car and it will start and run. If I turn ignition key to start, there is absolutely no crank, no click, no nothing. Could this be ignition module, bad battery, voltage regulator, starter?

2004 nissan altima key code

You have to take it to the dealer to get the new key programmed. Try holding the old key near the ignition switch and see if it will start. That way at least you could drive it to the dealer instead of paying for a tow truck.

97 nissan pickup

bought a 96 nissan last year (2008) and had the same problem for a while. It seemed that it only happened with 1 of the 3 keys i had. my girlfriend sat in a parkinglot for almost 4 hours before someone helped her out although no discovery of what the problem was.

at times the problem was because the wheel was locked and turned too far over. with key in ignition and "turning" it as if your starting the car, give it a nice **** in the opposite direction. this sometimes fixed the problem but was not a solution.

then a friend mentioned that you have to insert the key into the ignition and then you pull it back out JUST A LITTLE BIT, i repeat, A LITTLE BIT. if you do this slowly you should feel it "unlock".
(i dont recall if he mentioned that this was on all cars up to a certain year or just on Nissan's.)

that worked. NOW, WE JUST DONT LOCK THE WHEEL...EVER!!

hope this helps!!
