Re-install belt, lining up the timing marks, crank to TDC #1 cylinder, cma pulleys have marks on them, line them up to the index marks as well. If you have a drive wheel in the air, you can pop the car into 5th gear (make sure it's chocked!) and rotate the wheel to turn the engine for alignment, etc. You can put a wrench/socket on the cam bolt to align it as well.

First look at this and make sure the plug wires are connected correctly. 3e7c3d3.png
If the plug wires are correct then it is obvious that the cam belt was installed incorrectly of a sensor was damaged during the installation. Take it back to the person who replace the belt and nicely demand they fix it.

How do you replace the water pump on a 2002 mazda 626 4cyl? does it interact with the timing belt?

hi from uk the 626 water pump is not driven by timing belt but by another drive belt so easy to change after removal of under wing cover to access /see pump b4 you remove drive belt would advise you to slacken off the water pump pully 1st while it is held by drive belt to prevent turning ? then with belt off /pully removed pump is more accessable hope this helps?

Where is the water pump mazda 626 1992 GE

Its under the timing belt cover, driven by the timing belt. Replace the timing belt when you replace the pump. While its apart, replace the cam and crank oil seals, and check the bearing for the tensioner, it will need to be replaced also.

Timing belt/waterpump

usually a good time to change it is at about 100,000 miles. change it before it becomes a must or not ride(type of thing). if your water pump is run by your timing belt, then yes you should change the water pump when you do the timing belt. the tension from the new belt will sooner than later kill the bearing in the old water pump and it will cost you twice to fix it versus the one time fix. when you go in to the shop there should be no additional cost to replace the timing belt because it has to come off to replace the water pump.
