If you can rap the fuel tank on the bottom and the car starts, it's almost a guarantee that it's your fuel pump.
You have to get it replaced. Your luck at the little rapping trick runs out after awhile.

SOURCE: Chevy g20 van wouldnt start/stalling

It sounds like it may be a problem with the PATS (Passive Anti Theft System). Chevy has been having problems with PATS since 1992 til current. Even if your key doesn't have a visible "chip" in it, it is possible that you have the PATS system. The newer PATS systems work by recognizing the exact cut of the key. In some cases extremely worn out keys have been known to stop working correctly with your ignition. In worst case scenarios the ignition cylinder itself, which contains the other chip for PATS, wears out so badly that, one time in ten or more your vehicle doesn't recognize the key and fails to start. The logic is this: If a thief tries to jimmy the ignition, the PATS system shuts down the ignition system for 20 minutes (30 on some vehicles). This is supposed to discourage the thief from trying again, while still letting you start your vehicle. There are procedures for bypassing the PATS system on many vehicles, but it is not for the faint of heart. The wiring work itself isn't bad, but there are catches: 1) you must have the vehicle running while you make the modification in most cases, and not shut it off during the bypass. 2) It's recommended you install a switch in the bypassed wire so you can disable your bypass in case your vehicle needs service. 3) if the vehicle dies during the bypass for some reason, you may have to visit the dealership and get a new ignition cylinder, and a quick reprogram of the PCM or ECU to get it going again. Start with fuel system. Listen for fuel pump humm at fuel tank No humm check wiring to pump for power. Then check for spark at plugs and wires. Remove wire from coil and hold near engine and see arch when you crank. No arch. Replace ignition Modular inside distributor cap or cap or rotor

When my 2000 Ford Explorer is parked on a incline it will not start until I park it on a level surface what could cause this.

The same thing happened to me many years ago. It was not out of gas but it was so low that the gas wasn't reaching the fuel pick up hose in the tank, at that particular angle.
I coasted down the hill to level ground and it started easily.
Try putting some gas in the car and try starting again on the hill. If it still won't start then something else is wrong, but I have have no idea what it could be.
Good luck

I own a 2005 nissan zd30. It doesnt start in the mornings. My driveway is a steep incline.. Once i prime it by pumping the primary by hand, it starts after a couple of swings.. If its parked on level...

If the incline is too steep, and your fuel levels are low, the gas may not be getting to the pump? Does the same thing happen with a full tank, half tank, etc?

1 ton Chevy G30 With 6.5 Diesel wont start parked uphill

If the pick-up filter is located at the front of the tank and the tank is almost empty the pump would starve for fuel.

My chevy uplander 2007 ran out of gas. I have

Since the Uplanders have the long (front to back) skinny gas tank, with the outlet to the rear; if you run out of gas with the front/nose inclined lower than the rear, then it can take upwards of 5 to 8 gallons to get it started again. It was written up in a GM TSB. Two gallons won't start it. When the gage reads less than 1/2, it's not a good idea to park with the front lower than the rear...unless you carry a full 5 gal. refill. Thank you GM engineering.

2001 chevy 3500 van Fuel pump out?

1st ensure the fuses are all good and there is fuel in the vehicle and your not getting a false reading by tapping on the tank ..does it sound Hollow oe Empty / another way is turn on the key and listen for the pump to work a slight humming should be heard ...if so locate the fuel bar and cap screw depress the valve shielding your eyes with say a towell and see if gas dispurses make sure the key is on while doing this if no gas is there or fuel pump is heard then it may be either a bad ground to the unit or the fuel pump itself corroded connections will contribute to this as well unclipping and reclipping the connection togeather should allow a better connection

Van won't start without starting fluid, 1997 Chevy Express

gm generally puts their fuel filters on the frame rail on the driver side about half way between the gas tank and the engine.....I'm not too familiar with vans (work on trucks the most) but the chassis designs are very similar. I would also do a check on the fuel pump(have someone put an ear to the fuel filler opening with the cap off and turn the key on......don't try to start just to on ........and listen for buzzing or whirring noise.......)if the pump isn't working you may be able to fix it temporarily by hitting the fuel tank with a hammer. (don't beat on it too hard you don't want to cause damage to it)If this works don't depend on it to work for long, however i had one that would quit almost daily and beating the tank worked for quite some time.
hope this helps!.........keep me posted with comments here and i would be glad to help you further!
