MY CHALLENGE IS SOMEWHAT DIFFERENT. AT LOW SPEED WHEN MAKING 90 DEGREE TURN, I HEAR AND FEEL A "CLICK". SOMETIMES THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS STUCK AT THE START OF THE TURN, I OVERCOME IT WITH A LITTLE MORE MUSCLE, HEAR AND FEEL THE "CLICK" AND CONTINUE THE TURN. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Hello was driving through a gas station that had a in ground gas tank cover that was way too high and as I turned hit it and scraped the bottom of the car after I heard a hard hit of the front underside. steering wheel is hard to turn and there is fluid still in the power steering.

    Any idea what it is?

The power steering pump has failed for a 5th time. The pump which last failed was only 4 weeks old! This is a frequent but dangerous occurence. My pump went out and locked up my steering wheel while i was driving on the highway!!! Scary!!!!! I have a 2003 325I. Anyone else having this problem???

Steering wheel was working fine yesterday, this morning I turned on my car let and let it warm up. As I put my car in reverse I turned the steering wheel but was way too hard. I checked to see if their was p/s fluid and it was about a little over 3/4 of the reservoir. Im guessing its the p/s pump but im also wondering it can be the belt that doesnt have the same tension that it had before because the belt has been cracked for a while now. If anyone has any idea what it can be, please reply would really apreciate it.

Had a new pump fitted June 2008 after only having the car 3 days. Under warranty so does not cost me.
Had the same issue as the person who experienced the clicking. Thought maybe one of the panels protecting the engine underneath the front spoiler had broken and got caught up in the steering column. Indeed one on the right had been pushed into the steering after a holding pin had snapped moving the panel in towards the car. The panel was shredded in the corner where I suspected it had been hitting the wheel.
Thought that was my issue and had no more noises or hard turning issues. Last night the pump went for a second time.
Have not checked the fluid but the whole pump was only relpaced in June 2008 so it could have been leaking. I have a gravel drive so will not be able to tell.

    Spoke with BMW this morning.
The power steering pump has failed for a second time. This is a BMW manufacturer malfunction and is covered under my warranty but even so I am concerned with the reliability of the car. The pump which failed was only 8 weeks old!

If the power steering fluid is full and belts ok but, it happened suddenly, provably the power steering pump shaft was broken.

hose or connection most likely has broken, have you lost fluid aswell? take it back to the garage who did it they might sort it out for free as long as it's not a burst hose

Made a hard left turn, immediately had a rumbling sound and vibration when turning steering wheel left or right. Clear fluid under car but can't see where it's coming from. Checked power steering fluid...

Sounds to me like your CV joints need to be replace. The oil may be come out of the differential due to a worn bearing or bad oil seal.
Hopefully this helps you out.

BMW 325i BAD transmission fluid leak/gush

Check the trans cool hoses from the trans to the radiator.
Try and find where the fluid is leaking from.
Let me know what you find.

2003 BMW 325i will start but making noise

It might be a faulty power steering pump. Try checking the level of the power steering fluid. It is probably best you have your power steering system checked by a mechanic.

Does the noise occur only when the vehicle is moving?

Try moving the steering wheel from side to side, while stationary (but don't do it too often, or you might damage something). If the noise is still present when the car is stationary, then it probably is the power steering system.

If the noise only occurs while the vehicle is moving, it could be a problem with the differential/final drive, or even wheel bearings.

2003 BMW 325I Power Steering

when looking at the engine with the hood up, look to the right hand side for something that looks like this (#1 in the pic): http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=ET37&mospid=47720&btnr=32_0957&hg=32&fg=20

it will be black in color, but don't confuse it with the oil filter housing. power steering reservoir will have a unique cap (#2 in the pic) that can be removed with your hand. the one that has the large nut on top is the oil filter. remove the cap and put in the correct fluid.

hope this helped.

Terrible noice when I turn the steering wheel on my 2001 BMW 325i

Make sure you check your power steering fluid... if it's even low, it will make a terrible noise...run it on empty too long and your can ruin your power steering pump.

Car started making noise and the wheel became hard to turn

Is the belt on the power steering pump tight or loose does the pump makes a huming noise when turning steering all these are causes of hard to turn steering belt need to be (tight) on pump and pump must not be huming when turning steering add fluid if needed and play with steering to see if help if not need to replace pump
