It may be your oil pressure switch that has failed. However, if you hear any ticking or knocking, it could be cause you aren't getting oil pressure in which case damage to the engine will occur.
You'll have to determine the actual oil pressure. We use a mechanical gauge fastened to one end of a 3' length of high pressure hose. An appropriate fitting at the other end of the hose is threaded into the opening that the oil pressure sender is removed from. Run the engine until warm and read the gauge with the engine idling. If the oil pressure is below 7 lbs the engine probably has seriuos problems. If the oil pressure is higher than that you probably have a bad oil pressure sender. Otherwise you can just change the sender and see if that corrects your problem.
If you look down the back side of the alternator, just up from ac compressor you can barely see it, it is a real bear to get at, it is part of the oil filter housing, your oil pump is also in there.

If the engine runs quiet the gauge in the dash or the oil sending unit is bad. generally the sender on the engine goes bad from the heat of the engine. If the engine makes all sorts of noises and rattles inside the oil pump is shot
Try to change your oil and add one quart of lucas oil that will quiet your engine and will lubricate your valves too.
5 quarts of regular oil change. Pour 4 quarts of synthetic oil 5W30 and one quart Lucas Oil.
