i have a 2001 gmc sierra that will not shift to 2nd gear and the ABS and parking brake light are also on. I have replaced the entire rear end as i was told to do by the auto shop. It's been less than 1,500 miles and a new diff, new axles, ring and pinion gears and it's doin it again. It seemed to only act up over the RR tracks and rough roads but now it's a permanent and will not shift to 2nd gear. It also makes a kinda loud humming. It seems to sound like it could be a speed sensor, can anyone throw some insight?

I have a 96 Dakota, same thing, ABS and Brake light came on, dealer says it needs a ABS sensor.
There are no trouble codes on the truck? Have had bad luck with some aftermarket parts, dealer wants $70.00 for the part and $120.00 to put the thing on that takes 5 min to do...

1999 dodge dakota Abs light on and e-brake light on. Speedometer doesn't read untill 25 mph

The speed sensor that controls the speedometer is located in the top of the rear differential housing, this is your most likely problem and is very common with this vehicle. Being that it is a direct input to the ABS module it will cause those indicators to illuminate when the sensor fails.

I replaced the output speed sensor on my 98 Durango 5.2 4wheel drive on the back of the transmission, still no speedometer. what do i need to replace?

ABS light on too. You need to replace the speed sensor in the top of the rear differential. The speedometer is ran off the differential sensor.

I have a 1991 911 Porsche. The ABS Light comes on

This is all related to the vehicle speed sensor. This sensor sends information to the speedometer, abs, and wing computer. You need to get it replaced and it should fix all the problems.

I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 that the speedometer don't untell it get to 60+ why is that and the brake light stays on but I think the light was on befor the speedometer stop working.

From what I have read this sounds like a problem with the second speed sensor located on back at the rear axel on top of the differential. If the cable is loose or the sensor is bad it will cause the brake light to come on and the speedometer to act funny. There are two speed sensors...one in the transmission and the one on the differential. The second one is probably the problem.

Abs light and brake light came on wont turn back off

There is a sensor at the top of the rear differential for the ABS system. That sensor went bad and replacing it took care of the problem. What caused mine to go bad was apperantly water got into the differential when launching and loading my boat. check to see if gear lube needs to be replaced also.
The answer above is perfectly correct. When the ABS sensor on the diff goes bad the speedo no longer will work, the odometer stops recording mileage and both brake and ABS light comes on. You also loose O/D or "Lock-up" in the torque converter. The sensor is inexpensive and can be changed in about 30 mins. Good Luck!
I second the second answer :) My ABS light was on, my BRAKE light was on, my CHECK ENGINE light was on, my SPEEDOMETER wouldn't work below 35 mph, then quit working alltogether. Once the speedomenter quit working the odometer and cruise control quit working. I replaced the rear differential mounted speed sensor ($33) and then reset the CHECK ENGINE light by disconnecting the positive battery cable for a couple of minutes. EVERYTHING then worked.
Replace rear differential speed sensor as follows:
a) remove parking brake cable bracket (1/2" socket)
b) remove speed sensor bolt (9/16" deep socket)
c) remove metal speed sensor cover
d) remove speed sensor from rear differential housing (use channel lock pliers, twist gently back and forth while applying upward pressure. Once the speed sensor has a small gap between it and the rear differential housing, insert a flat-blade screwdriver and gently apply upward pressure while gently twisting speed sensor back and forth.
e) disconnect speed sensor from speed sensor cable
f) lubricate new sensor with WD-40, insert into rear differential housing. It will NOT go in all the way by hand, so do NOT force it nor hit it with anything made out of metal.
g) replace metal speed sensor cover
h) Insert speed sensor bolt and tighten LIGHTLY until a small amout of pressure is felt. Tap speed sensor with rubber hammer until it pops into housing. Finish tightening of speed sensor bolt.
i) replace brake cable bracket, replace 1/2" nut and tighten
j) disconnect positive battery cable for 2 minutes, reconnect positive battery cable
h) start vehicle, enjoy,

ABS light & brake light on, problems with speedo working properly

The rear wheel speed sensor is the most common problem on those trucks and will do what you are talking about. It is located at the top of the rear axle in the center. It picks up it's signal from a tone ring on the diff inside! If a tranny input or output sensor is bad then the tranny won't shift properly!

The fix for your truck is the ABS speed sensor located in the top of the differential housing , held in with one stud . Your speedometer is calculated through the ABS controller. Replacing that sensor will fix your problem.
