Usually on the side of the throttle body. You can try cleaning it with some throttle body spray and reinstall it. Just undo the connector and the bolt that hold it in, then reverse for installation. If you're going to try working on the vehicle, make sure it is off, the battery is disconnected, and the engine is cool before you touch anything. Here is an image of what they look like so you know what I'm talking about.
Good-luck and please let me know if I can further assist you. -TXTEXAN

idle control valve? don't know what that has to do with air injection. care to elaborate, please.

  • Anonymous Mar 29, 2011

I rushed. In your case, your air pump is located behind the passenger headlight, in front of the washer fluid bottle. If you find that your air pump is good, your issue could also be caused by the air pump solenoid failing.

    Sorry about the confusion,
    TXTEXAN.

Thanks for looking again. Air pump is working when engine cold and first start, just as the test that i've found says it does, but nowhere does it says secondary air injection. thought maybe you've come across that one?

What does this code mean? P0410

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0410 indicates that your secondary air injection system is not functioning properly.
Not all 2001 Chevrolet Bazers are equipped with secondary air injection. The secondary air injection system was added to vehicles that were to be sold in certain areas where the emissions laws required it, like the State Of California.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the system by commanding the secondary air blower motor to run and the air injection solenoid to open. This causes additional oxygen to enter the exhaust system. The PCM then monitors the signal from the oxygen sensors to see if the commanded air has in fact, entered the exhaust system. Code P0410 sets when the PCM has commanded the blower motor on and the solenoid open and there is little or no change in the oxygen sensor signal.

GM has had some problems with these systems and there has been a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) issued that addresses some of the known concers. Below is a brief description of the TSB and the issues involved.

Bulletin No.: 04-06-04-015A
Date: November 28, 2006
TECHNICAL
Subject:
LN2, L43 or L35 Engine SES/MIL Light Illuminated, AIR Pump Ingesting Water and DTC P0410 Set (Replace AIR Pump and Inlet Hose Assembly)
Models:
1999-2003 Chevrolet Blazer, S10
1999-2001 GMC Jimmy
1999-2003 GMC Sonoma
1999-2001 Oldsmobile Bravada
with Vortec 2.2L I4 or 4.3L V6 Engine (VINs 4, 5, W - RPOs LN2, L43, L35)
Condition
Some customers may comment on the SES/MIL light being illuminated. Upon investigation, the technician may find a DTC P0410 indicating that there is a concern in the secondary air injection system.
Cause
Water may have collected in the AIR pump or the vent solenoid and frozen or corroded the pump.
Correction
Replace the AIR pump and install a new inlet hose and solenoid tube assembly...

The bulletin goes on and gives detailed information on how to perform the repair and the part numbers of the replacement parts needed to do so. Your local dealer can provide the parts for you and you can probably get them to print out a complete copy of the bulletin for you. It is not really hard to do if you want to do this yourself.

Received trouble codes p0410 and p1599. The car has trouble staying started and sometimes stalls at a stop. It also seems to idle up and down even when engine is running but, is in park.

P0410 Secondary AIR System Performance

P1599 Engine Stall Detected

Leave it to GM to use a computer code to tell you your engine died. The AIR system was a mistake they felt like was best corrected by continuing to use it. The system is similar to EGR function where it injects air into the exhaust for emissions. When it screws up, and it does often, it makes the car run horrible and is usually expensive to fix because the parts are hard to find. I would call a local GM dealer, give them the codes and see what they estimate the cost to fix it is. You might consider trading it in after that.

410 secondary air injection malfunction code comes up

P0410 Secondary Air Injection System
"Secondary Air" is an abbreviated term for the "Secondary Air Injection System". This system uses a separate air pump and a series of metal and rubber tubes to force outside air into the exhaust stream and help the catalytic converter burn away excessive emissions.

Possible causes and fixes are:
#1 Poor connection, rubbed-through wire insulation or a broken wire inside the insulation.

#2 Inspect harness connectors for backed-out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal-to-wire connection, and damaged harness.

#3 Check for worn or loose AIR pump drive belt.

#4 Check for pinched, kinked or restricted AIR pipes, hoses or fittings.

Problems with this system can stem from electrical circuits, solenoids, or switches that control the pump and valves. Other problems include sticking valves, loose, rusted, or poorly connected lines, a broken drive belt, or possibly a bad pump.
