I have a 99 Cavalier with a coolant warning light on. I have filled the coolant and the light is still coming on. Any suggestions?

On a cold engine did you check the coolant level in both the reservoir and radiator? If so, most radiators have a coolant level switch, that switch could be causing you a problem? Mounted to the radiator, two wire connector.

How to bleed air from cooling system after refitting bottom hose

Raise the front of the car as high as possible off the ground, this allows the air to migrate to the top radiator. Fill the coolant recovery tank all the way up, then run the engine until it reaches the normal zone on gage, do not overheat, Turn off the engine and let it stand, the coolant will be pulled from the recovery tank and the air expelled.

Why did the overheat light flash? and smoke came out of the engine? and antifreeze was leaking out of the engine?

You basically answered your question.
  1. You have a leak and sensor tells you you don't sufficient coolant.
  2. Leaking coolant spilling on hot engine parts converted into steam escaping from engine compartment.
  3. Your engine will start to run hotter without coolant up to it death, that's when it seizes up and shuts down
If you're lucky and had enough time to understand the importance of your warning lights you may only have to replace the leaking part and fill it with coolant and off you go. But if you drove it to it's death you are looking at an engine overhaul (takes longer, sometimes cheaper for parts but not labor) or an engine replacement (expensive, cheaper labor). Over all you'll need an engine to get you going. Lesson "Warning lights" are what they are. I'm not implying you are but that's why they are known as "Idiot Lights".

Where to add coolant for radiator on a 95 vw jetta?

Add Coolant to spherical reservoir at right rear of engine compartment as viewed from front. If it is low the coolant gauge flashing light will warn you of a low condition.

Low coolant warning light stays on.

Bad coolant level sensor in the tank. Look around the bottom of the reservoir and find a plug connection, unplug it and see if the light goes out. I think the tank has to be replaced dont think you get the sensor out. You could try by take the tank off and see if it will come out of tank but I dont think it will.

Coolant disapearing

maybe ur correct it goes to the exhaust.

1. open the radiator cap, with coolant full observe when starting the engine. If the coolant comes out on the radiator it indicate there is a crack in the cylinder head.

2. Check engine oil if it is not deluted with the coolant (oil color changes), if deluted the cylinder gasket has cuts/cracks.

If this indication/observation is present, you need to have ur engine overhaul (semi-overhauling)
