Question about 2008 Audi A4 Sedan

Open Question

Just took my 08 audi a4 to be serviced. the instrument panel does not change from park to drive..it just stays illuminated..and i can not use my slap shift bc the circuit board is malfunctioning due to a coin slipping through the shifter (which is not cover by warranty) Audi wants to charge me 500 dollars to repair this circuit board...is there any way i can purchase the part and have someone else repair it for a cheaper cost?

SOURCE: 2004 Audi A4 3.0 - Oil pressure Problem

2800.00 for an oil pump? Sounds expensive. Is it only for the pump or is other work involved? There are hoses that deteriorate that have to be replaced and an engine flush that usually goes with that repair. Also your engine may have to be replaced if there is bearing damage to the camshafts or crankshaft. This is a common problem with 1.8T's. You are not the original owner,so are you repairing the car from the selling dealer? It make a difference when your trying to get assistance. You also must have proof that all services were completed, preferably by a dealer. If you have all that and still only offer half take it and be happy!

well do you have documentation that you changed the oil every 4 thousand miles or less? If you do the the dealer should cover the expenses. If you did not do the oil changes as required or do not have the proof then the dealer is being more than fair as the failure would be because of your lack of maintenance.

SOURCE: Premature oil pump failure 04 A4 3.0 Quattro

Absolutely - the 1.8T engine is known for sludging issues. If they diagnosed oil sludge then your engine is covered no matter the mileage. The oil sludge builds up in the 1.8T no matter how well cared for it is, and the sludge can block the oil pickup screen on the oil pump (it's an extremely fine mesh), causing oil starvation and taking out the engine in the process.

Go to www.audiforums.com and do a search there for "oil sludge" and the information will come up. You can learn all about it there. But if your engine has the sludging, and you have receipts proving the oil was changed at the proper intervals, you will get a new engine free of charge - one of the members there is an Audi technician and I remember him posting that he'd changed out a 180k mile engine under warranty due to sludge.

If you've just had the instument changed then its probable that the connector has come loose and will have to be re-connected. It could also be that the instument has failed. Take it back to the mechanic who changed the old one. This assumes that the car drives ok and all the fluids are topped up and ok.

02 audi a4 quattro wipers won't park

If you can move the wiper arms by hand then the 13mm bolt on the motor has worked loose, remove the plastic windscreen trim under the bonnet , close the bonnet , then operate the wiper motor for 1 cycle , switch off , open the bonnet , loosen the 13 mm nut on the wiper motor , push wipers down to the park position , tighten 13mm nut up , close bonnet then check wiper operation , they should now park in the correct position .

2004 A4 1.8T Brake Lights Remain On After Car Is Parked

Sounds like your brake light switch is on its way out. Its a simple fix and a cheap part. It will need to be done immediately as not only can the lights staying on drain your battery but it can also cause lack of power and not put the brake lights on when braking. The switch is operated by the pedal itself and requires the drivers underdash trim to be removed. With this off the switch can be accessed and replaced. If you can get a vehicle technician to fit it, do so, as they are quite fragile and new switches can become useless if fitted incorrectly. Good luck

1999 Audi A4 ekectrical

This is a known issue on these cars - they get "pixellated" as it's called. It's a manufacturing defect that Audi has so far ignored and refused to take care of for its owners. The only real fix for it at this time is to replace the information display (big-time pain) or to replace the entire instrument cluster, which is costly and requires the cluster and ECU to be flashed to work together. Honestly the best bet is to just deal with it for now. A large number of A4 enthusiasts are petitioning Audi to take care of the repair, but although so far it hasn't borne fruit, they're keeping at it and are trying to get some results.
