The pulley on my cooling fan is wobbling and knocking.(where the serp belt spins the fan). Is there a bearing or something in there that I can replace? How difficult to do? Where to start?

I have been hearing a cricket like noise ! 1995 v10 . Today thing got louder . Sounds like it could be the fan clutch.I checked the pulleys they all seem good . How do you check the fan clutch ?

When you said you checked the pulleys, did you take the belt off so you could spin them? To check for rough or loose/side play/wobble in the bearings. While the belt is off the tensioner make sure the tensioner has full and free movement. Buy a can of belt dressing, see if that makes the chirpping go away. It does on my 05 trailblazer, for a few days. I think my belt is bad, in that it tracks back and forth on the smooth back pulley while the engine is running.

How do i isolate the squealing coming from my 2000 ford ranger xlt 3.0. And yes i changed the serp belt

Loosen off the belt and spin each idler pulley Check for roughness of the bearings. Check each unit the same way and when you get one that is rough to turn or makes a noise that will ne the faulty unit. If you have a viscous fan hub check for looseness as it has a bearing as well.

Loud rattling sound top of engine near or below the alternator when idling, goes away if accelerator is pressed

Hello: Remove the serpentine belt, see if the waterpump pulley wobbles/makes noise when you spin it. If thats not it then start the engine, belt still off see if noise is there also while engine is running see if vthe crankshaft pulley wobbles. Also check the A/C compressor pulley (engine off, belt off) spin it by hand and check for noise and wobble. If all the previous is ok then it could be the balance shaft front bearing and or the timing chain.

I was driving my 2000 dodge durango v-8 318 it had a squeaking noise in the area around the serp. belt. that blt was only 3 months old. as i was driving i lost power steering and the car started to...

it could have been a fluke bad belt but the pulleys should be checked for alignment and looseness.bearings go bad and can sometimes cause a wobbly pulley that can throw a belt.the belt tensioner may need replacing as these can create problems if the belt is not held tight enough.

Hi please help, I have a mk 1 ford focus 1.8 zetec petrol 2000 model, when i start the engine the pulley i think for the water pump wobbles and a loud screaching noise is heard also steam. I have checked...

The bearings in the water pump are shot. This is why your pulley is shaking and screeching. If you are not careful it will lock down and break the serp belt and will run extremely hot, enough to warp the head and internal engine failure. Get this repaired quickly. The bolts don't have anything to do with the bearings gone.

Serp. belt off alignment

Did you replace the belt? You mentioned the pulleys, but not the belt. If the belt is new, check the grooves on the pulley that appears to be a problem and make sure there is no residue stuck in the grooves. Also, make sure you can't wiggle the pulley that is giving the problem. It is possible for a belt to cause some damage when it comes apart.

Loud high pitched noise from belt

When you have the belt off, spin that idler pulley and see if it turns easily or makes noise. Check if the bearing feels good and smooth or if it wobbles any. While you are at it, check the fan and fan clutch to see if they turn smoothly also. There should be some resistance to the fan clutch, and make sure the fan isn't rubbing on anything.

Replacing the idler pulley is usually done as a unit since the bearing is part of the pulley.
