Replacing the timing chains on this engine is no cake walk and I would not recommend it to anyone unless they are very experienced technicians.
There is a specialty Ford tool, part number 303-645, that is used to set the crankshaft while the timing chain is being replaced. You will need another Ford tool, part number 303-530, which is used to lock the cam shafts in place in order to prevent rotation.
There are other tools needed, but they are for other aspects of the same job.
You can not just set the engine to TDC and work with it from there because of the VVT system and general nature of the engine.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Jaguar xj8 wont start after replacing timing chans

I'm sorry to tell you this, but you are going to have to start from ground zero. Take your timing cover back off. Ensure that your NO. 1 Piston is at TDC (Top Dead Center) and that your cam is aligned properly. Once you've done that, put the timing chain back on and bolt everything back together. If your timing is off a little bit, your engine won't run. If your timing is off alot, then your valves will hit the piston heads and cause ALOT of damage.

Firing order and timing for 292 ford

The firing order is 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2, distributor turns counter-clockwise. The ignition timing can be set using marks on the vibration damper. The wide mark is TDC (Top Dead Center), each mark after the wide mark represents 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 degrees before TDC. Set timing 3 degrees BTDC (Before Top Dead Center). In addition, valve timingis set like this: Intake opens: 12 degrees BTDC
Exhaust Closes: 8 degrees ATDC

Hi im im changing the chains can you tell me the

Special tools are required, you CANNOT do this at home. Take it to a shop that does Jaguar work. If you dont know what you are doing, serious engine damage will result.

How do you set top dead center on a lanos

TDC is when the number 1 cylinder is at top dead center. You can do a preliminary adjustment with a rod into the spark plug hole. If the head isn't on yet, just turn it to the top. Align the timing marks and put your chain on.

Timing chain on 2000 Jaguar

The jaguar v8 has 4 timing chains located on the front of the engine behind the aluminum timing cover.
You can inspect them by remove the valve covers but to replace them you need special factory tools to set the vehicle up on TDC.
The secondary timing chain tensioners are a common failure on this vehicle which will cause the chain to break.
You can replace the tensioners to prevent this failure just by removing the valve covers and exhaust sprocket, but if this is not the issue the chains should be lifetime, not like a timing belt which is required to be replaced by time and mileage.
