Can a 1993 dodge dakota engine be put into a 2001 dodge durango? The motor in my dodge dakota is awesome but i have a durango withtoo many problems with motor but the body is awesome. is it possible to swap motors?

Legally, no.

You can put a newer engine into an older vehicle, but not the other way around due to emissions laws.

4.9 Durango motor interchange


For the 4.7L v8 (I couldn't find any listings for 4.9L): 2000- early 2002 Durango, 2000- early 2002 Dakota, 2002 Ram 1500, 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In later part of 2002, Durangos and Dakotas changed the reluctor/cam gear on the right camshaft for the cam pickup sensor, and changed the tone wheel on the crankshaft from 16 tooth to 32 tooth.

Legally, you can not put an older motor into a newer vehicle due to emissions laws. You can always put a newer engine (usually manufactured to meet newer emissions specs) into an older vehicle, but not vice-versa. There's issues with the computer and vin # when you change from one factory engine to a different type as well.

If the speedometer still works,then no you don't need the speed sensor.The problem sounds more like the catalytic converter Which was a recall item on most Durangos and Dakotas for that year should be replaced for free at the dealer.
