Question about 1999 Ford Expedition

I am trying to drain my engine coolant on my 99 Ford Expedition and i don't see the plastic screw drain hole or a way to take off the bottom hose since it does not have a clamp that can be squeezed or screwed off.

You may have an allen screw to loosen vs. a plastic
wing nut to turn
You should see the drain tube

I am trying to drain the cooling system on my 1999 Passat 2.8. I am having problems figuring out a way to drain old coolant from engine block. I can't find the water pump drain plug or any plug...


hello.
there is a very small kind of screw just in the lowest part of the radiator, just remove it.
if you don't see this so clear just do it disconnecting the big lowest hose on the radiator,

Replace heater core


    A heater core transfers heat from a 1994 Ford Ranger's engine to the passenger compartment by running hot radiator coolant through a serpentine of tubing. Air blows past the hot fins of the heater core and into the truck cab.

    The hoses running to and from the heater core must be removed from the engine compartment, but the core itself is accessed from inside the passenger compartment, on the driver's side next to the center console.

    1. Turn off the engine, open the hood and remove the battery cable from the negative terminal. Make sure the engine is cool.

    2. Attach a 3/8-inch interior diameter hose to the drain outlet on the bottom rear corner of the radiator on the driver's side, and place the bottom end in a resealable plastic container. Turn the drain valve (located above the drain outlet) counterclockwise with a pair of pliers. Drain the engine coolant into the resealable container, then close the valve by turning it clockwise. Remove the hose from the outlet.

    3. Loosen the hose clamps on the radiator hoses where they attach to the heater core on the firewall. Remove the hoses.

    4. Unscrew the screws holding the underdash cover in place on the driver's side of the passenger compartment. Remove the underdash cover.

    5. Unscrew the four screws on the cylindrical heater core access cover and remove it. Remove the heater core by pulling it down and toward the rear of the vehicle. Replace the unit with a new heater core.

    6. Reinstall the heater core access cover and screw in the retaining screws. Replace the underdash cover and screw it into place.

    7. Replace the radiator hoses on the heater core in the engine compartment. Tighten the hose clamps. Add coolant until the level is between the minimum and maximum marks on the reservoir.

    8. Replace the battery cable and start the engine. Check the system for leaks.

Where is the condensate drain on a 2002 expedition


I think what you are looking for is the Evaporator drain...Stand in front of the vehicle and open the hood,on the left side of the engine compartment there is a large black plastic unit bolted to the firewall,at the lowest point in that unit is a hole or a rubber hose deflecting the flow of water.this is the drain

Removal & Installation 1997-2002 To Remove:
NOTE: Heater core must be vacuum leak tested before it is remove from vehicle if a heater core leak is suspected.
  1. Drain engine coolant.
  2. Remove instrument panel.
  3. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, remove junction splash shield.
  4. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, disconnect starter relay cable. ford-03-00-3579.gif

  5. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, remove junction block bracket.
  6. Clamp inlet and outlet heater hoses.
  7. Disconnect heater hose from heater core by gently pressing it toward heater core.
  8. Remove A/C plenum demister adapter.
  9. Disconnect vacuum line.
  10. Remove 13 plenum chamber top screws.
  11. Remove blend door assembly from case.
  12. Remove heater core.
To Install:
NOTE: If needed, clean and lubricate coolant hoses with plain water.

  3. Install 13 plenum chamber top screws.
  4. Connect vacuum line.
  5. Install A/C plenum demister adapter.
  6. Connect heater hose to heater core.

  9. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, connect starter relay cable.
  10. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, install junction splash shield.
  11. Install instrument panel.
  12. Refill engine coolant.

How to properly drain engine coolant


Get a large drain pan ready and remove the radiator cap when the engine is cold. On the bottom of the radiator there is a pitcock which is usually plastic that is screwed in the drain hole. Slowly remove it until coolant comes out. Once you remove it completely coolant will come out quickly. Once it is drained remove the lower radiator hose to drain what is left. This will drain 85% to 90% of the coolant.*** Please rate me on this answer.***

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
CAUTION Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.
  1. Remove the instrument panel. Refer to .
  2. If equipped with the 5.4L 4V engine, remove the junction block splash shield.
  3. If equipped with the 5.4L 4V engine, remove the bolts and disconnect the cable ends from the starter relay.
  4. If equipped with the 5.4L 4V engine, remove the junction block bracket.
  5. Disconnect the heater core hose couplings.
  6. Remove the retaining screw and remove the A/C plenum demister adapter.
  7. Disconnect the vacuum line from the A/C plenum demister adapter.
  8. Remove the heater core bracket.
  9. Remove the 13 plenum chamber top retaining screws.
  10. Remove the plenum chamber top.
  11. Remove the blend door assembly from the case.
  12. Remove the heater core.To install:
  13. The installation is the reverse of the removal.

Spec's on coolant capacity for 1998 FORD EXPEDITION


I drained my system out and ran a water nozzle into the coolant jug. this will help get any slime/grime out. They make a coolant cleaner you can use. I rushed plain water through until it came out white. But while I did this i had my engine running to circulate the water at a hot temp to loosen up other grime. leave hose in for 5 min while water is pushed through. go cut car off and let it drain for 2-3 minutes. plug your drain hole and put in Antifreeze not the 50/50. Pour in the whold bottle and rest with water. 1 gallon of antifreeze and fill with water.

Drain cooling system


Make sure the engine is cold before you drain the cooling system. First remove the radiator cap. Under the hood on the bottom of the radiator you will find a drain plug. You turn it counter clockwise and drain the coolant into a container. After it has been drained add new coolant using the half and half (half coolant half clean water.) After having added the coolant. Be sure to add the kind of coolant that ,("goes with any color".) Replace the radiator cap.Run the engine to operating temerature then be sure to bleed the cooling system. They have a bleed screw near the thermostat housing . (That's where the hose from the radiator connects to.) Make sure all the air comes out from the bleed valve screw until coolant starts coming out. Tighten the screw and let the engine get cool again. check that there is coolant in the container where it says coolant only near the radiator.

I need to drain the antifreeze where is the plug from the engine block


The textbook method is to remove the drain plug. Most drain plug is make of nylon/plastic and it may fall apart while you turn it.

The professional method is to loosen the lower radiator clamp and drop to lower radiator hose.

Drain the coolant onto a large drain pan and recycle the coolant
