Question about Chevrolet 1500

BOUGHT A REMANUFACTURED ECM AND WANT TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANY SPECIAL INSTALL INSTRUCTION BEFORE I PULL THE OLD ONE OUT. DOES THE NEW ONE HAVE A NEW CHIP OR DO I NEED TO REINSTALL FROM THE OLD ECM.

This is a 2003 GM Silverado 1500 truck not a darango. This ECM needs to have a relearn procedure preformed after it is installed. I need the relearn procedure instructions.

Hi, a reman PCM will have everything inside. If it is preflashed, it's ready to go. If you have passlock on the truck, follow this relearn procedure:
Here is the official GM passlock relearn procedure:

1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
2. Observe the SECURITY light, after approximately 10 minutes the light will turn OFF.
3. Turn OFF the ignition and wait 5 seconds.
Turn key to START, sometime your car will start after only one relearn. If so, you're done. If not, repeat steps 1 to 3 two more times (for a total of 3 relearns). At that point, the vehicle will be ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to START.
Important: The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

It will also learn your sensor feedback parameters over time. It may run a tad rough until it does this. If your PCM was NOT pre-flashed, it will have to be flased by the dealer with the appropriate logic for your engine. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

This job isn't nothing of other world, just disconnected the battery before to begining. Keep in mind that the ECM is a complex computer and because of several important roles it plays in the operation of your vehicle it must be functioning correctly at all times. If you continue to drive your vehicle with a bad or faulty computer then you risk damaging other electrical parts, which will lead to unnecessary repair costs.

Most of the checking, servicing and flash reprogram procedures must be performed while the ecm is connected to your durango. Ecm reflash and correct replacement are not simple tasks. We recommend you hire a qualified mechanic to make the necessary repairs and re-flashed.

When your "new" EMC is installed, scanned to re-programming some devices and synch other modules. Some autoshop with reader code could make this.

Keep us updated.

If your "new" ECM is with the GM factory settigns, then the re-learnd procedure is automatic with the next 40th starts. The ECM stored the drivers mode in each start and conduction way.

Also, I found this quote in the GM sites...

No scan tool needed for passlock relearn: 30 Minute Learn Procedure

1.Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2.Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start.
3.Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
4.Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
5.Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes, the vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.

    IMPORTANT:
The vehicle learns the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or password on
the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn
the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

    6.Start the
engine, the vehicle has now learned the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code
and/or password. 7.With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed, history
DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.

Additional details could fins in this link: forum/general-discussion/performance/gm-computer-relearn-procedure-including-crankshaft-relearn.

    Good luck.

Where is the transmission ECM on the 2002 Nissan E25

The dealership told me I needed to replace my TCM, so i went ahead and bought a remanufactured one at Auto Zone. Not being too mechanically inclined, Im still wondering if anyone has had any experience pulling one of these out and switching in a new one. I have asked this before but figured my old thread threw people off with title being about the codes instead of a potential resolution. I know Kevq35 wont like this new thread too much(thanks for the only input so far), but I'm just hoping anyone with any advice will throw it out there real quick so I know what I'm getting myself into.

I need a starter for my 1994 gmc sierra 1500 350engine but not one onthe truck when purchased everyone tells me they are two starter how do i know which one"

i quickly punched in your vehicle specs at the autozone site

the main difference is the body size of the starter itself

With 98mm (3 7/8") diameter case

or

With 115mm (4 1/2") diameter case

"Shims may be needed for the approximate 1/8" clearance of starter nose (Instruction sheet in starter box)"

and since you sometimes need to bring in the old one for a core charge, may as well have the parts counter person bench-test BOTH your old starter and the replacement starter

(sucks to install a remanufactured starter straight from the box & they incorrectly built it)

87 Buick century...3.8 well maintained...had in garage for a month...all sensors have been verified..bought new computer and used old proms..still no resolve...finally took to dealer and they said a bad...

I doubt the ECM from a C body would work on your Century. I would probably buy a used computer and prom from a car exactly like yours. The prom is calibrated to the body style, engine, and trans. Each year and model can be different due to emissions standards.

Where is the ecm computer and directions for replacing it

I replaced my computer on a 95 Ultra. It is up under the dash behind the glove box next to the fire wall. There are three large connectors attached to it each about two inches wide. It will be easier if you remove the glove box to access it. Make sure to disconnect your battery before you pull the unit. There are two snap connectors you will have to carefully dislodge form the ecm with a flat screwdriver for it to come loose. Have patience and when you get it out make sure that you remove the little chip inside the unit under the little panel with screws. When you get the new unit install your old chip inside of it and repkace the small panel. Install is the reverse of above. The old chip is specific to YOUR CAR. The new computer won't work without it. I got a reman ecm @ Auto zone for about $110 exchange. Good luck!!!
