I would be willing to bet my money that it,s a engager first you will have to pull the door panel off make sure the window is up. there are a set off steel bars that go from the door handle to the latch, one is to open the door and one is to lock it. these bars hook up to a little plastic box( ie) the engager. You can feel how they hook up to this easily but with yours I think you can see it unplug the engager unhook it and replace with a new one.PS don't panic about the way it plugs in it only plugs in one way. hope this helps you out.

In my vehicle there is a botton in the glovebox that gets accidently switched off. there is a child safety button to prevent automatic door closing...highlander may have this switch as well.

Key fob will not unlock driver door. It will

I would suggest a new key fob and get the dealers to program it so you know it all works.Yes some vehicles can be programmed by swinging on the aerial and pressing the rear tailgate all at the same time whilst turning the ignition on with the left foot whilst the right foot is on the am/fm radio button but whenever i have followed the instructions to the letter its far easier if the car is connected the dealers computer

If you can get under the hood try to disconnect the negitive cable on the battery for about 15 min, then reconnect it, try to use the remote again.
