Question about 1990 Chevrolet C2500

1 Answer

I have a 1990 chev 350 5.7 TBI c2500 truck. The fuel doesn't deliver thru injectors after I've driven for about 20 minutes. I've replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pump relay and oil pressure switch. It will get me there sometimes, but wont promise a return trip.

where's that.....? I have a feeling something is clogging not letting the gas thru, but I've blown out the line, added some fuel cleaner, changed all those parts and still its doing this....is there something else I'm missing?

The regulator is built into the throttle body go www.rockauto.com and you can get a rebuild kit for the regulator. Its really just a diaphram but if has a pin hole in it its not any good.

Do a full blown fuel system cleaning and replace fuel filter. If you can, check the SeaFoam.com site on cleaning procedures. It works great for bringing the dead (stored/parked) back to life. FWIW, mashing the pedal to floor on those older TBIs actually turns fuel off on start ups. Run a good cleaner through it (sounds like injector is gummed up)

Fuel injection needs 20-30 pound pressure to fire the injectors. Try to check pressure before filter. If its low your pump is no good. If its ok then you have pressure drop after the filter. Filter on backwards or clogged.

You first need to check the fuel pressure, an easy way to access this is to buy a can of spray starting fluid, spray it into the TBI throttle valve and if the truck starts and dies you have no fuel pressure. Replace the fuel; pump, and make sure you get the right pump, it is a low pressure system.

My 1990 350 tbi will not start. the fuel is getting all the way to the fuel injecters but wont come out

Make sure you are getting power to the injectors. I have the same,350 tbi. Check the fuses and relays and check the wires at the tbi to make sure one of them is not rubbed through. The injectors have to be getting intermitent power .
