Yes. The o/d is for use when traveling at high speed for prolonged periods without heavy load, ie not pulling a trailer or going up hills.

Hi, unfortunately your voltage regulator is controlled by the PCM. If the 120 amp charge fuse is good and the alternator is good; then the PCM is probably bad, as your mechanic is suggesting.

I have a Sangyong Rexton 270Xdi year 2004. The signal '4WD Check' coming out at the dash board. The gear position only show 'D' at all time.(Normally it will change from D1 to D5) The max speed hardly...

The most likely problem is the Throttle position sensor, which is attached to the side of the injector pump. If this sends the wrong signal it will be interpreted as a TCU fault.

It can be tested seperately with a volt meter and reset.

The electrical connections leading to the TPS and other parts of the gearbox should also be checked to make sure they are clean and well connected. This is a common fault with this type of vehicle.

I doubt if the TCU itself is faulty. Dont let the garage just throw parts at your car in the hope it will fix it.

BA Fairlane V8 - will not reach top 'gear' (Automatic) til 70kmh, so all city driving at 60kmh is done in 3rd. Can the computer be reset to reach 4th at 60 kmh ?

there may be a ecm flash that would enable you to lower the 4th gear lockup, but why would you want to do this? Unless you are driving on extended level surfaces the lower speed would 'lug' the engine (not good) and it would probably use more gas-the dealer may be able to do this, using a Tech II or similar device, don't know if they would though. Your overdrive gear is for highway speeds, not around town driving-it's actually better for your trans converter not to go into lockup at low speeds, and is probably suggested in your owners manual to put the selector in '3' for exclusive around-town driving.

My car doesn't start

The out-of-gas/added-gas bit is coincidental. You've lost charging, and so you're only driving on what charge is in the battery. That's why it won't start without a boost, and (since the battery isn't made to drive the car, just start it) why it dies after a few minutes.

If you're lucky, it's just that the alternator belt is broken or slipping. If the belt is in good shape, then your alternator has failed, possibly because your voltage regulator has failed.

You're probably looking at $300-$500 for a rebuilt alternator installation.

Good luck!
