There is oil in your coolant reservoir, you may have a big problem, either there is a crack between one of your oil passages in the head or the block and the coolant passage, your head gasket is compromised, or the problem could lie inside the radiator if the vehicle is equipped with an oil cooler.

    because i have the same problem, oil mixing in my coolant resevoir and not in engine.

When engine completely cools remove coolant from overflow reservoir to the cold mark on the reservoir which is the lowest mark on reservoir. If you continue to loose coolant you may have busted block.

The coolant jug has a creamy tan color fluid in it


that means trans fluid or engine oil is getting into cooant system. Not good. Either a leaky trans cooler in the radiator or a blown head gasket. Hope it's the trans cooler

Increasing use of water from the radiator reservoir


One thing to check is for coolant getting into the oil, which would indicate head gasket failure. Check oil dipstick and/or underneath of oil cap for a frothy brown/tan look to it. If so, do not drive the car.

Also check coolant reservoir for a leak. Evaporation is suspect, but maybe not to the point you are describing. Check coolant reservoir cap, as well as radiator cap.

1990 BMW 735i: oil in the coolant reservoir


If your car is an automatic there would be lines from the transmission to the rad to cool the transmision fluid. Over time the lines inside the rad have been known to corrode and start leaking. This would put oil in your coolant. You would be looking for small steel lines going in and out that would trace back to the transmission. Hope this helps.

Mysterious disappearing coolant


Sounds identical to a problem I had on my motor this year. The EGR or exaust gas recirculation cooler to give it, its full name had failed. Basically a little radiator sits on top of the exaust manifold and admits some exaust gas back into the engine. Its water cooled and they do split loosing coolant internally into the exaust. Good news is its an easy job to replace not so good news is they cost £220. To check yours you need to remove it and look into the pipe that feeds the inlet manifold, any sign of water there and its goosed. Hope this helps, Neil

Audi A4 2.5 V6 TDI - Creamy grey coolant in expansion tank


Sounds like blown head gasket (or worse) still to me.
Remove oil filler cap and look for grey oil.
Never use water these days but special coolant. Water makes vapour spots and cause block cracks, worse then blown gaskets!!!
vapour does not cool very well.
Look like you have cracks already.
Take a compression test if possible. But might not show op at that temperature.
The gauge indication troubles me.

Engine overheating


Hi!
From your brief description it appears you have an air lock or maybe head gasket issues.
I presume/hope that recently you have had something to do with the coolant (Rad change or Thermostat) or maybe let water out to add anti freeze? what is needed is a system bleed.
O.k. when engine cool remove header tank cap (Where you add coolant) have the car on level ground start it up and leave it to idle, have plenty of very warm water available. Hopefully after the engine has reached operating temperature a bubbling and boil over will briefly occur. (Make sure you are well away from Coolant filler) top up the system with the very warm water, wait a good few minutes or more as it will possibly gurgle over again. If after a good while it stops then replace cap and hopefully problem sorted.
If the fault persists you may need to repeat process, If when you are doing this operation the water boils over profusely and a lot of air bubbles are seen all the time when warm the Head gasket may have fractured between cylinders pushing gases into the cooling system causing the air lock and overheating.
Final checks! Is the oil on the dipstick Creamy/Coffee coloured? Has the oil filler got gungy creamy gloppy stuff all over it? Is there oil in the coolant? From the exhaust pipe is there a considerable amount of Water dripping when engine running? and finally do the hoses go very hard become pressurised?
The above point toward Cylinder Head or Gasket failure.
Last thing, could the water pump be faulty? is there any coolant driping from behind it?
