Spring goes down towards block point faces up so when spring gets hot it will allow water to flow back into radiator.

DOES IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE WHICH DIRECTION THE WEDGE GOES ON THE THERMOSTAT. THERE IS A SLOT FACING THE RADIATOR AND ONE FACING BACK. DID NOT PAY ATTENTION WHEN I PULLED OUT THE OLD THERMOSTAT BUT IT CAN...

The thermostat is designed to go in one way. The wedge faces toward the radiator so that it opens toward the engine. Remember to use the right coolant for the vehicle you a working on. On yours its orange in color and branded Dex-Cool

Is the thermostat supposed to be installed upside down?

The sping side of the thermostat should always point towards the engine. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

How do I locate the thermostat on the Nissan Maxima 1989?

The upper radiator hose connects to the thermostat housing . Loosen clamp and remove hose from housing nipple , there will be two bolts one on either side of the housing remove bolts lift housing and thermostat will be under it ,pay attention to the way it is facing before removing . remove old thermostat clean off old gasket seal install new gasket (it will come with the new thermostat ) install new thermostat face same direction as the old one was. reinstall housing and hose . refill radiator with antifreeze let car run till it warms to normal running temp check for leaks on hose and housing tighten clamp or bolts if needed if no leaks your done. Hope this helps.

Where is the thermostat located in my 1995 mazda 626

The thermostat is located on the engine block, where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine. You'll see a large elbow-like component that is attached to the engine with 2 bolts.
Just follow that upper radiator hose and you got the location. When you remove that housing (elbow-like component), you'll see the thermostat.
Make sure you note which end of the thermostat is up and which end is down. Don't reverse the install.

Thermostat in backwards?

The bulky end of the thermostat should be facing away from the radiator so that it is placed in the engine such as to sense the temperature of the water in the engine and not the radiator hose.

1966 chevy caprice pulls to the left ONLY when brakes are applied

There is a "star wheel" accessed thru a slot on the backside of the "wheel". When you put a brake adjusting tool in that slot moving the tool up turns the wheel in one direction, moving the tool down turns it in the other direction. I don't remember which direction is which but you can tell after once you start turning the star wheel.

The tire needs to be off the ground. Tighten or loosen the brakes until you can freely sping the tire by hand.

A screwdriver can be used to do this, but it's much more difficult than with a brake too.
