Normally there is a valve that looks like a tire stem on top of engine. you can turn the key on, but not start car, then take something to push in the stem until fuel comes out. you may have to turn key off again and push the stem in again. when you turn on the key it makes the fuel pump, pump fuel up to the engine. you are trying to get the air out.
good luck

you might check fuel filter it is located Under vehicle, driver side, below seating area, rear of engine, mounted on frame rail in fuel line while it is off you can turn the key to the on position and see if fuel comes out line. don't try to start car just turn on ignition. also you might put something under to catch fuel. You should be able to hear the fuel pump come on when the key is turned to the on position.

What would make a not start unless I pour gas into intake

Hi Clyde:
Since you mention "gas rail" I'm assuming fuel injected.
I'd check the fuel pressure in the rail. Should be around 40 PSI.
If pressure is OK then injectors not working. Time to check cps.
You know the spark side is OK since it will run.

Run out of gas on a 2006 silverodo z71 and it will not crank after I put gas in it

I take it you mean it WILL crank(turnover) but wont start. Anyway, Your problem may be a lack of fuel pressure. Could be the filter is now clogged. Trapped air in fuel lines, and fuel rails. Most GM vehicles have a schrader valve on one of the fuel rails. It looks similar to a tire valve stem. You could turn the key to on, make sure you hear the pump in the tank running. It will run a few seconds to pressurize the fuel system, and run continuously after the engine starts. Using a fuel pressure gage to check pressure and depress the valve carefully to visually see if fuel or air is present. Dont position yourself to be sprayed with gas.

Most late model vehicles wont arm the ignition(spark) systems unless there is correct fuel pressure, among other things. Something you may not know is that most all fuel tanks have a reserve of 1 to 3 gallons of fuel in the tank that wont register on the gage. Putting in 1 or 2 gallons most likely is not enough to prime the system. Hope this helps.

I need to access the fuel injectors in my 98 wrangler, but i dont know how to get to them

FIRST NEED TO RELIEF FUEL PRESSURE REMOVE GAS CAP RELIEF GAS PRESSURE IN FUEL TANK.THEN REMOVE FUEL PUMP RELAY THEN START ENGINE UNTIL IT DIES LACK OF FUEL,CRANK ENGINE OVER FEW MORE TIMES MAKE SURE FUEL OUT OF FUEL LINES. THEN YOU NEED TO REMOVE AIR CLEANER CROSS OVER TUBE ABOVE FUEL RAILS. DISCONNECT LINES AT THE ENDS OF THE FUELS RAILS ASSEMBLY. MARK AND DISCONNECT THE FUEL INJECTOR WIRE HARNESS CONNECTORS. REMOVE THE FUEL RAIL RETAINING BOLTS, DISCONNECT THE VACUUM LINE FROM THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. REMOVE THE FUEL RAIL ASSEMBLY FROM THE ENGINE. IF YOU HAVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REMOVE THE THROTTLE PRESSURE CABLE AND BRACKET TO REMOVE THE FUEL RAIL ASSEMBLY.TO REMOVE FUEL INJECTORS JUST REMOVE CLIPS THAT RETAIN FUEL INJECTORS IN FUEL RAIL. BESURE GO TO DEALERSHIP BUY NEW FUEL INJECTORS O - RINGS.APPLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL TO THE O - RINGS TO AID IN INSTALLATION. TORQUE FUEL RAIL BOLTS TO 100 INCH LBS.

Mercury cougar 2002 run out of gas. then died. put gas in and now wont start. what could it be?

the fuel rail has to be bled out. when you run a fuel injected car out of gas sometimes the fuel rail needs to have the air bled out before it will operate properly.

Car won't start.

you will need to remove the air cleaner and pour a small amount of gasoline in and get to start, the fuel rail is vapor locked and needs the engine running to pull this air pocket through the fuel rail,it may take more than once if the fuel filter in the rail got dried out between the gas tank and engine

No fuel PSI.

most likely bad pump check the fuel pump relay you may not have all the air out of the system hold the shrader valve in on fuel rail and have some one turn key on and off several times call the parts store and see what the psi rating for the pump is i know that on my jimmy its 52psi and it wont run at 50 the 5 second hum is controled by the computer

My car willnot start but it will try to turn over.

I know this is a dumb question but we have to ask. Is there gas in your car? Check the three major things you need to make your car run. Air, Fuel and Fire. Do you have fuel going to your fuel rail? Is there spark coming from the spark plugs? And of course check your air filter. Start on those three things first.

You need to check the fuel press, the test port in on the rail, also run a code test on the ECM/PCM, this checks for trouble codes and also lets you know the computer is working if it tests ok.
