Question about 1997 Ford Expedition
If the cts is causing it to run rich what's the problem? Does it mean it needs to be changed? Cuz I've done changed my oil and did a tune up and is still burning lots of gas and smell it every now and then....

Check for leaks, service engine lights since CTS (Coolant temp sensor) can cause the vehicle to run rich. Keep in mind that there is a lot of Ethenol in our gas that is lowing the gas mileage on our vehicles. The canister purge tank can cause gas smell if it isn't working right, but the computer should give you a service engine light on any of these.

The burning smell could be due to gas leakage in the engine compartment. The gas smell is being sucked into the fresh air intake of the air conditioner. It can be avoided by checking either fuel pressure regulator or fuel injector.
