Suspect big vacuum leak such as the main vacuum line going from brake booster the intake manifold. Also could be a dirty throttle body or a stuck idle control solenoid.Let me know if I can help.

I changed out the steering column in my 1999 silverado now it will turn over but will not start.its getting gas but no spark from coil packs and security lite is blinking. how do i find problem

You will have to "relearn" the new steering columns key tumbler code. Follow the steps below exactly and the new code will be accepted.
Make sure you have a battery charger on the battery so the truck battery will not drain. If the battery goes dead, you will have to start over. Read the instructions below carefully and follow exact.
1st, Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, DO NOT attempt to start the truck. Leave the key in the ON position for 10 full minutes.
After the first 10 minutes is up, rotate the key to the OFF position and leave it there for a count of 3.
2nd, Turn the ignition switch back to the run position again for 10 minutes, again DO NOT try to start the truck and leave it in the ON position.
3rd, You will have to repeat the same step for an additional 10 minutes. This will be a total of 30 minutes. After this final 3rd step, turn the key to the OFF position for a count of 10, then turn the key to the start position and the truck will start, the key tumbler code is now relearned to clear the theft mode.
Good luck.

Truck wont start turn key dash lights up but starter doesnt turn

See is power goes to the solenoid wire by checking it about a foot away from the solenoids connector. If power does exisit then check the soleoid wire a foot away from the solenoid to the solenod nut for power. If nothing shows the fuseable link in that wire is shorted out. That link provides protestion from overloads burning out the starters solenoid
Of course you will need the ignition key on when doing these test

Electrical Problem - dead battery

Sounds to me like you may need a new rectifier put in the alternator,a shorted diode in the alternator could be powering up things that should go dead with the key in the off position. To prove this, instead of pulling the fuse, take the plug out of the alternator and if all is well, you have your answer.

IF both remotes are dead will this cause the theft system to keep car from starting?

no it wont. now what you do is turn the key to the on position. do not attempt to start, just leave it in the on position for 10 mins. it must be 10 mins to reset theft sytem, turn key off wait 5 sec and turn back on make sure theft light goes away and start

My trucks starts but keep quiting

I see you say that you have a new fuel filter but did you try replacing the fuel pump??? If not you can check the fuel pump simply by turning the key to the ACC position (thats as far as you can turn the key WITHOUT starting the truck) listen by where you pump the gas in and try to hear a low sounding whine if you cant hear it then it could be your fuel pump is dead and needs a new one....or it might be going dead.

Truck will not stay running without giving gas after a jump off

when the battery goes dead it looses its memory on engine settings like idle speed.. two things you can do first one is to clean the throttle bore with carb cleaner... the other is to start with foot on gas and slowly bring it back to idle... it will pick up the idle air position to keep itself running if you do it slowly... everything happens over time so as the throttle gets dirty the computer makes these adjustment on its own and when the battery dies it starts out basicly at different percentage of idle control tht it really needs because of the carbon buildup on the throttle plates
