Question about 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

1 Answer

Hi there, The break lights have both stopped working on my 1999 E240. The High level one however is still functioning. I have replaced both light bulbs but unfortunately that did not help. Could someone please provide some guidance on how to rectify this. Many thanks in advance.

Why doesn't the high level brake light work?

High level brake light is connected , in parallel with, all other brake/stop lights.. It is not on a separate fuse, so, check, or replace the other stop lights.
Or could be a bad ground on brake lights, but not on high level light.

Rear brakelights dont come on fuses and bulbs are fine rear window brake light works

If the high level brake light works, then the brake light circuit is fully functional.

Brake light bulbs may LOOK fine, but can still have failed. Often folks don't notice that one bulb has failed until the second one has blown; it's then easy to incorrectly assume that the fault is more complex.

Try replacing the brake light bulbs: if that doesn't work then please report back for additional options.

As for the horn, inspect the fuse and relay and most common it would be a bad ground wire or worst a bad horn due to corrosion. Horn will be located in the drivers side fender.
Thank you for using fixya.
